Not sure how long this has been on the shelf, but Baron Services is offering a version of ThreatNet that delivers radar updates every 2.5 minutes instead of every 5 minutes.

Has anyone tried this out yet?

John

I'm not sure but this may not be for the WX WORX. I believe it receives the data via the internet. I don't see any reception bars on the screen shot.

software is very expensive and it's around $150 a month if you get permission to use data from your local tv station

It's also internet based only but does work pretty good from the road

It does offer 1 min old based imagery :)

But remember that the WSR-88D itself only updates every 5 or 6 minutes in precip mode.
So looking at a particular cell won't get you updated information more often than that, not even with the Plus version.

Plus version can use live feeds from your local tv stations radar so it is possible to have updates that come in every min

I think they've always done it every 2.5 minutes - that way they get the various update times of radar as close to sync as possible. I.E. if Topeka finishes a scan at 5:51pm and Wichita finishes at 5:55pm, they update at 5:53 and 5:56 so that both are the latest.

In addition, you can sign up with a TV station that has their own Baron live radar and get the live sweep data.

OK, I wasn't aware of the option with the local TV station feed. Thanks for clearing that out.

I gues this is not with the mobile (satellite) version ??

nope it's internet based only . I have a pdf around here about it that I will try to get uploaded when I get home .

Its funny how many people actually do not understand the difference between Threat Net Plus and Mobile Threat Net. I have both. I will upload two pictures of the storms today for you guys and you can ask questions if you want. Its actually $170 dollars a month unless you buy the yearly plan at $1800 dollars a year which is 150 a month. The radar updates are about every 2.5 minutes and the most valuable feature of this product is the future scan. Pretty much like the Vipir system at your house. You have to be connected to the internet (high-speed). Its very nice and highly recommend to anyone who can afford it. It has the best national radar and that's why I like it. Mobile Threat Net is like the cheap version of it (I love it too). It provides valuable field data and has very many less features. The Plus has a resolution of 1KM radar and Mobile has 2 KM difference. I also can overlay storm reports in Plus. Here is a picture of them:

You can actually get a feed if your local station has a Baron radar and that costs about 600 extra a year but I think you can control and manipulate the data like they do on TV. You have to have written permission though and most do not grant it unless you know them.

Feel free to ask any questions about the software.

wow 1800 or 170 a month. That's crazy expensive for a feed just to get the weather man out of the picture. yea I know it's more than that but for something that I can get on my in dash TV I'd have to skip. KAKE weather here in Wichita is pretty top notch with VIPER3D.

Their version of plotting LSR's. You can also use it to set up your own spotters so their reports can be added to the database, but I don't think that became very popular.
