Storms of 2008?

Just finished placing my order. Even though I am up here in Canada, I see the hard work everyone puts in making these dvd's happen. I am looking forward to seeing it. Thanks guy's!

I'm very interested in buying the past years DVD's in addition to this years work. I haven't seen anything mentioned on this thread or on the web site about buying "The Storms of 20XX Collectors Box Set".

Anyone have any comments?

They will be available as well.

I think everyone who is a fan of the Storms Of Series owes Mickey Ptak a huge thanks. This project would have died if he didn't step in and take over after the former lead producer jumped ship without warning. Also, Johnathan Brouwer has played a big role in getting this thing done as well. There are a lot of people that make this DVD happen but these two have gone above the call of duty in making Storms Of 2008 happen so please thank them if you get a chance.

It's been a long, hard road for Storms of 2008 to make it to production, but I'm extremely pleased to see that it didn't die in the water - it would have been an immensely huge letdown to the chasing community and to the storm victims the proceeds will benefit if the project hadn't made it off the ground.

I personally was a huge proponent of keeping the series going, and I donated 60+ hours of my own personal time to creating the May 23rd chapter, which was a very difficult chapter to produce because I received well over 200 minutes of footage and had to consolidate it into a 20 minute chapter - but despite much frustration, several delays, some complicated technical difficulties and some tough decision making, I pulled it off! It was my first major video editing project, and I'm very proud of what I accomplished with the chapter - it will not disappoint, I can guarantee you that :D

I think everybody involved in keeping this going deserves a big round of applause - but as Darin duly noted, Mickey and Johnathan deserve a standing ovation for their contributions. Without them, SO2008 would not have come to fruition.
Bravo, guys, bravo!

Great work all those who made it happen - back here over the pond the DVDs provide almost surreal viewing, as often the situations depicted are quite far removed from normal experience over here (both weather-like and terrain-like!).

Just a reminder that you can pre-order the Storms of 2008 DVD now online. JFYI - we are now up to $607 in pre-orders. We have ordered 500 units and I have the feeling once the DVDs arrive and they hit the market in full force they will go very fast so get your hands on them while you can because I am not sure there will be another batch replicated.

The replication office has given me a ship date of Jan 26th so I should start fulfilling orders on the 29th or 30th once they are in my hands.

Also, Johnathan will be creating a trailer for the DVD this week. Once that is up on the website I will let you know and you can see for yourself that this DVD has the best footage of all the Storms of DVDs!

There has been a tremendous amount of discussion here in Lincoln to once again show the Storms of DVD to the public at the Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium and to have it available to sell to those who attend. It would be a huge opportunity considering the media coverage the event gets and that average attendance for the event is between 4,000-5,000. Darin, I'm sure you can vouch for that since you guys attended last year. This year the event will be held on Saturday, April 4.

I would LOVE to do this again, we had a great time last year and would be willing to sell these again for the SO2008 production if you'll have us back!

We can set a side some DVDs for this event. If Dick and / or Darin would like to make the trip again I can get the DVDs to them. Just let me know.

Also we are now up to $1200 in preorders so keep them coming by going HERE and ordering your copy.

Is there going to be a preview up on YouTube like last year? It doesn't have to be long and ornate, anything would help sales. I have an email list of 150+ people that bought the SO2007 DVD at Tom Skilling's seminar last year and I wanted to email them with the preview and new website to order this year's DVD.

Yes there is. Johnathon is working on it now. Once it is up I will post it here.\

I do not like taking things so public but I need to get a hold of the original producer of SO2008 - Tony Lyza. I have tried contacting him via PMs here, on the SO2008 board, via email, and phone but he will not respond.

So my question is do any of you know him and or talk with him regularly? I need lot of paper work from him that pertains to this project so that I will have it on hand.

If you have any information please let me know 405-227-2701.

Thanks,

Mick

As if credibility hasn't already been ruined..... it seems our friend has been active on another blog ----- HERE So by no means am I wondering if he "disappeared" Since my material is in S008 naturally I am going to want to know what is going on.......

Looks like an age rule needs to be implicated on this project in the future; it's unfortunate that "one bad apple ruins it for the rest", but I think it's obvious (from this situation) what a disaster putting a project as significant as this in the hands of a teenager can be.
