Staying logged in

Shane Adams

Am I the only person who, regardless of how many times I check the "remember me/stay logged in" box, has to manually log in every time I visit the site? It SHOWS I'm logged in when the main page first opens, but every time I try to click an interior link, that page opens up and tells me I can't do whatever while logged out. At first I thought it might be a computer issue on my end, but it's happened on many different computers. Is there a setting or something on here (like my profile) that needs to be checked that I'm unaware of?

Definitely what Dan said about the bookmarks / favorites, but there isn't a setting in XenForo per se that controls this behavior, other than the client-side browser in use. It's working in Chrome for me, but after the last update it switched to an issue in Safari (for myself) where I get booted after 3-4 days. Yet even a week or two ago Jeff Duda reported issues with Chrome, so I'm convinced there is something awry. I've tried about everything I could find in the XenForo forum and still it persists, so I'll setup something to get this looked at by a fresh set of eyes. IMO it should just work as designed, but in the meantime following the advice in the "Chrome keeps losing me" thread about deleting cookies will definitely help. One other crucial point is to ensure your browser settings are set to allow cookies to be created because if it isn't that will definitely compound the issue. Thanks for chiming in.

It happens to me with 3 separate browsers: Chrome, Firefox, and Palemoon. Keeps me logged in as long as the tab stays open, it's inconsistent to whether or not it happens when I close the tabs and come back to the site later. Sometimes it holds, others it doesn't.

This can happen if your bookmark is going to the https:// address. If it is, change it to http:// and see if that works.

On my XF install, after going to SSL, I had these issues a lot with members. I added a few lines of code to the .htaccess file that redirected http users to the https format. I don't know if that would help but you might look into it. :)

Shane, I am still experiencing an issue like that. It isn't EVERY single time I visit the site, but probably once every day or two (maybe 3 or 4 visits per day).

Same for me. Not every time, but randomly makes me login again. Only in PC...with mobile, never an issue.

I have to log in each and every time I come here through Chrome if I go into a thread, regardless of what machine I'm on. I've tried http, https, clearing cookies/history/etc and it doesn't help.

For instance, I wrote this message up but didn't post it (logged in of course), then closed my browser. Came back to the site literally 5 seconds later and it remembered me on the front page. Then I come back in here to post, and it makes me log in again. This is via laptop.

This is going to be addressed in the next few days, so if I didn't make that clear in my last post I apologize. One other area to check are your favorites. I ended up deleting the 3-4 favorites I had set for Stormtrack and recreated them, because they were being overwritten during the sync process and reverting to the old one (https version).

Be prepared for a few 404 errors as this is addressed. A 404 error makes the webpage appear to no longer be available. Steve or I will post a forum notice during the time we're working on it, so everyone will have a heads up during those times. Hang in there gentlemen, we appreciate your patience!

Beginning tomorrow at 12 pm CST we will be addressing this problem and seeking a permanent fix. Please be prepared for some downtime while we work through this. Thank you.

UPDATE 1:35 PM CST

We are done working behind the scenes and everything appears to be fine. If you've been affected by the logout issue and STILL continue to have problems, delete your cookies and cache from your browser, reboot your device/laptop/computer, and take it from there. It's working like a champ right now for me, so hopefully it'll do the same for you.
