The U300 is manufactured by C-Motech (link below)

I couldn't find the product with a quick search of the site, but later I'll see if I can find it. From the various photos I've seen online, there are not other ports on the device...for an antenna or memory card (like the other Sprint cards have).

If you google the model number with the manufacturer name, you guys might find the info before I can get back to it.

No, no external antenna port. Although, I will say I've had no issues with connection to 3G and poor signal. I've been very happy with the card, just sucks no 4G area-wide up here yet.

When I do get a 4G signal, the speed is all it's advertised to be and more, I will say that!

There is a USB extension cable that comes with is, allowing about 3' of USB cable and you to mount the card on top of your laptop, or I suppose, maybe on the dash or window for a better signal while traveling (???) I've never needed it, always get a strong 3G signal, but perhaps that would help when mobile?

The real benefit of this where I can see is that it is backward compatible, so one could get all the 3G data in the rural areas, and when in the larger towns/cities, switch over to 4G for the really high-speed data.

A lot of the area where I am on Sprint is still 1xRTT, which is why I was wondering about the antenna port. They show the 4G available in Lubbock, Amarillo etc, the bigger cities our here, but that's it. Everything else is 1x unless you roam on the Alltel towers.

I wouldn't be so rushed to get 4G right now anyway. Remember it's brand new, and you should expect problems. I see blogs about issues a lot with up time. I would plan for 2011 rather than 2010 for chase use.

As David pointed out...many areas never even got 3G...so there isn't going to be a rush to upgrade the wide open and lower income areas in the Central Plains with 4G before they have nearly all the coastal cities taken care of.

Ah, yes! Finally, Sprint 4G in the Seattle/Tacoma metro area.
Should make for some better streaming opportunities when chasing local weather events.

Here's hoping 2010 brings a massive expansion of 4G across the Plains !!!

so there isn't going to be a rush to upgrade the wide open and lower income areas in the Central Plains with 4G before they have nearly all the coastal cities taken care of.

Hereford, Canyon, Borger, Panhandle, White Deer, Pampa, Levelland, and Slaton (all small panhandle towns) have all gone online with 4G now; along with the larger cities of Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, Odessa, Abilene, Wichita Falls and many other cities and towns in TX. It seems like Texas has sort of become the testing ground for 4G as there doesn't appear to be any other 4G except for in major cities.

Has anyone in TX upgraded to a 4G device?

Verizon has announced that their beginning to upgrade their 3G network to 4G so I can't wait! I can't wait to get it here in my hometown. I've heard some good things about 4G!

You'll be waiting a while. It'll probably be at LEAST 2-3 years before it goes beyond larger cities. I can't imagine Champaign/Urbana is at the top of their list.

All of that 4G you see out here is because Clearwire rolled out service in some places out here in west Texas. All of that is Clearwire Sprint is using.

They are also evidently in the process of rolling out 3G across the area. Some people are seeing it on and off automatically in Lubbock from time to time in certain area, and I can get EVDO on Sprint towers when I force EVDO now.

I decided to wait another year to go with a 4G device because the service costs more to get it and the more I thought about it, the actual time I would be where I would use it was quite a small amount of time compared to what I would pay for it over the next year.

FINALLY!

I was so surprised to see Clear/Sprint roll out 4G in the panhandle of Texas, but am happy for those who live in the general area. I was never able to get anything other than 1XRTT over the last few years whenever we chased there, so for that geographic area to be selected for the early roll out 4G service was somewhat of a surprise. I won't be able to upgrade to 4G service and a new device until service is available in Denver, but will seriously consider doing so when it arrives as I am more than ready for the faster speeds.

Good news everyone, sprint lowered the price on 4G today.

Unlimted 4G and 5GB of 3G is now $59.99

David, go trade that modem QUICK!

Also to go along with that news, Clearwire plans to have 75 of Sprints top 100 markets 4G by the end of 2010, and their entire current 3G footprint will be 4G by around 2012.

Not bad if they can do all that in 2 years.

The great thing about 4G WiMax is its very easy to upgrade to LTE, almost as easy as upgrading EVDO Rev 0 to EVDO Rev A.

I just wish we knew what cities, there is also a rumor they have reached an agreement to put towers on Walmarts to avoid legal holdups to tower deployments so they can move quickly.

That could be REALLY interesting because all these little towns could get a tower with or without sprint service in the town already.

The only thing is the smaller stores often rent space in strip malls. My little local one down the street here is like that, so who knows how that part would play out.
