So,who is chasing during may and how long are you chasing?

I will be chasing from May 5th to May 26th with my international fellows from Italy, with Andrea Griffa and some other chasers from Italian team thunderstorms 07/08 project.

Man I am so iching for it! Also I'd be interested to meet other chasers from US or others;)

5 of us will be over from England from May 14th through May 30th. It would be great to meet you all (we've met a few over the years, although I'm bad at rememering names!).

cheers,

Paul.

Good day all,

I am keeping my schedule in May and early June OPEN after May 6. May 6 (I am sure this day will be 26 tornadoes through IL, IA, and OH) - I am visiting FL (family) as I am in Ohio for work right now.

I am NOT doing a 2-3 week "chase-cation" as I did the past 6+ years since the famous "May ridge" tended to leave me SOL after committing to an airfare and time-off work.

Had I done this, I would be ripping my hair out right now if I saw all that is happening in TX Panhandle the past 2 weeks and I was "locked" into a trip starting May 15 and ending June 1 or something like that - Agonizing wait, then I would get out there, and I am looking at rocks and wildlife (example: my group and I were some of Carlsbad caverns' best customers) ;-(

Been there, done that, too too many times.

This May, if there's a big setup - I am on it, just for a couple of days or so. If it gets "ridged" (LOL I hate saying that word), then I do NOT go, period.

Last year I was out there in May from May 17 through June 1 and I was ridged in, and even worse, forced to drive all the hell over the central USA (I saw Canada, only 2 days after seeing W Ohio)! Only with marginal setups (many slights that SPC degraded to "see text" at best), I put the same distance on my rental than if I drove from NYC to Tokyo (over 9,000 miles - if there was a bridge there - just for comparison!) ... I was solo, and cheapest gas prices were $3.29 a gallon - Go figure, never again.

Yet in SE SD on 9-16-2006, saw a cyclic tornadic storm, and this was leaving STL on a Friday and returning Sunday around lunch and the tornadoes was on Sat. Money wise, this whole thing costed about 1/20 of what I spent in May 2006!

Just one "hot chase" like this can make an entire chase year ;-)

Now for international chasers, like from Europe, "spot chasing" is really not an option. But in the USA, even far from TX, even a last minute flight, costing 2-3 times as much as one planned 2-3 weeks in advance, is WORTH it - Because you WILL be on a good setup, and not HOPING for one over a time "window".

I will "spot chase" this year ... Hope to see some of you out there "under the meso" and not "under the thermal ridge" ;-)

stuck until Memorial Day

Well I am stuck until Memorial Day teaching except for the weekends and nights here around Olathe and Paola KS (South of Kansas City).
After that I am free to chase until July when I do my EOAS course at a community college which includes teaching kids about weather, storms and show them my stormchasing and tornado videos.
I hope to chase with others and through after memorial day so I might see some of you on the road.
If anyone in my area wants to chase, send me an email (you can also reach me at [email protected]) as well as this board.

Good luck

I should be out in the alley by the 14th of May, give or take a couple of days until the first couple days of June as it stands at the moment. Im much more encouraged we will have many opportunities for good chasing this year since 2004 because one big reason is the dreaded Hudson Bay low is not the dominate feature this year. We are seeing a much better progressive wave pattern than we saw in 2005/2006. As I mentioned before I like the monthly cycle which is occuring in the last week of the month is the best period for the plains. Although there will be other days scattered through the month especially when you get into May and June you can expect good events at anytime. For those coming from overseas, later next week looks very promising beginning around the 3rd of May.

Will be bringing a Team of 6 of us from Uk from 1st until 10th May and then I am hooking up with another team of 6 until May 22nd. Hoping for some good chases, and I have to look out for Verne's red car!!

Going to be out May 2-13 as a guide for Tempest Tours, then again May 25-June 4 with some acquaintances. Have family obligations the middle 1 1/2 weeks in May. I'll take an active early and late May :) The extended GFS has shown hints of a few waves moving through the plains roughly May 4-8...I'll take that.

I have the entire month available, except from May 19th - 25th...I'll be in the Bahama's. I told my wife the next time she books a trip, PLEASE check the "tornado weather guide" I put in her top dresser drawer! lol

School is out in approximately 346 hours, so I'm ready for anything from May 10th- June 1st :D . Work actually cooperated and I have an open schedule (I call and tell them if I want to work each day or not) beginning May 10, so bring on the storms already...I need to make up lost time!!!!!

Hi,

we´ve planned our chasecation from May 13th until June 2nd. We´ll arrive in Dallas on the evening of May 13th. Besides chasing, I am curious to see what the Dallas metro has to offer and friends of ours over in Arkansas City, KS have invited us for a good ol´ BBQ and we also would like to visit the new NWC in Norman.

Hope that the pattern from the last weeks will hold together or even become better ;) ...

Cheers,

Lars
