Snow in Paradise

Snow has closed the Mauna Kea Observatory. A bit rare I would think.

Seems to me like it happens at least once a year. Or at least once every two years. You'll always end up seeing a picture of someone skiing in it too. Maybe not on 2 inches, but in drifts.
 
I believe Christmas Eve/Christmas day of 2004, South Padre Island, TX, (Where I'm originally from) had measurable snow. Somewhere around the 2-4 inches range. My uncle emailed me pictures of snow on palm trees. This was the first time, IIRC, the first time they received snow in over a century.
