Shot of the lunar eclipse

Nice night for moonwatching in southern Alberta last night. 30F and clear skies.

NICE shots everyone. I headed West from the Twin Cities metro about an hour. I tried different lens combo's including a Zenithstar 66(388mm f5.9 I believe) and a 300mm(f5.5@300) w/2x tele-extender on tripods (that basically froze, quick release & the whole head on one tripod).

Much less time on your exposures and drop that ISO back to 100-200. Practice on a full and partial moon before the next eclipse to see where you need to be with time and settings. If you are zooming in just remember the closer you get the more travel you will have in even a second or two of exposure. And since you are using film it will take a bit to get there as you cannot preview as you go. But you will have been washing out at even a second or two probably on your top picture. Also what was your aperture set at? You will want to get that light in there fast so you can cut the time needed for the exposure and eliminate travel while watching your depth of field as well.

Also take a look at this link and you may find all your answers: Mr Eclipse

You will have plenty of time to learn as the next total eclipse here in the USA will not be until December 21 2010 - Lunar Eclipse Chart 2001-2020

Not a problem Jason. Some of these other guys with the awesome pictures will be able to even add more to the discussion than I can. At least they got to shoot it this year.... Lol I had shot the moon during different phases in the last month to try to get some practice on making great pictures like these other guys but I just couldn't figure out how to shoot through the clouds regardless of the practice I had......

This photo was taken at 8:47PM CST just west of the Nebraska State Capitol Building. The sower statue atop the capitol is in the foreground. The moon is about three quarters eclipsed.

This photo was taken at 9:13PM CST from roughly the same spot just as the moon entered totality.

Sue -- Quite possibly the only way I'd almost welcome missing a lunar eclipse. Intense thunderstorms are about as rare around these parts (CT).

Here is a timelapse of the eclipse I shot from my apartment looking east over the lake. I shot this through my closed window (that's why there is a glare) because it was about 5 degrees at the time. Enjoy:

I know I'm a bit late here, but I drove from Mobile, down to Pensacola Beach, FL to shoot the eclipse. Absolutely spectacular.

The view was excellent and the waves crashing in the background were nice... Temps were in the mid 60's... ;)
