I have followed the step by step instructions and when I go to broadcast with windows media encoder i keep getting this error "it is not possible to detect the publishing point type. bla bla bla..." also, when I try to stream a different way, it streams for like 1sec and gives me the after stream report.

Anyone know why?

THANKS!

Brian, you might try asking this over at Severe Studios.
That being said, it "sounds" like you don't have the correct server name put in... ie, you are streaming to
You should have a streaming account, so you should be able to access this page

make sure you log in to see the content, but it will give you exact step by step instructions on what fields need what information.
If you still have issues, drop Kory a line and he can assist!

Windows Media Encoder is plagued with problems. You may wish to check out one of the flash providers if the problems continue. Flash Media Encoder is far superior. It will auto reconnect your feed when you lose internet on your air card without buying expensive software.

I used to get that. I forget if it was because I had the wrong set up (password / username - publishing point info) or if it was because I had a crappy internet connection.

I've used Media Encoder a lot. It connects well, but will drop out at times. Typically though you don't have to start the whole app over you just have to close the error screen and click 'start encoding' again. I like the way Severestudios has full screen for viewers.

Lately using ChaserTv not sure I like it better than Media Encoder. Their flash is supposed to reconnect but I was having a heck of a time near Cordell / Woodward day before yesterday. Seems the screen on the viewer side will just go black even though it shows I am streaming. The auto reconnect wasn't doing so well either but was trying. I think a lot of it may be Vortex 2 around and bad internet connections. Other thing is I was streaming to server and to output file on my disk which can be a bit challenging. SevereStudios Expression 3 may be the way to go. I didn't get a change to use it in the field though I did test it at home without issues.

PS: Hey, what's the deal with no fullscreen mode in ChaserTv?

I recently switch to Expression Encoder 3 - had a lot of issue with the previous MS encoder, including blue screen, multiple boot to recover. So far, i haven't got any disruption of my stream since i switched. Went out three times for about two hours of unninterupted stream.

I would recommend to switch to Expression Encoder 3 - better interface, easy to setup, and the best, it is reliable and stable. Flash encoder is nice, but you need a big machine as flash is using alot of ressources to do the same job. I have them both, and EE3 is working great without crashing my system.

I also tried Livestream channel/encoder - that one is also very reliable and adaptive (and free), but work only on their site (of course). If you have a solid 3G HSPA connection, then Livestream is a better solution to broadcast - full quality.
