Its almost August, and I have just started looking over chase video from this past spring. I guess after chase season is over I take my mind completely off of chasing and focus on other things in my life. Heck, I haven't looked at a forecast model in over a month now!

I have finally watched all of May 24th video for the first time. Justin Teague had the VX2100 for all of the close shots, and I kept the HD dashcam on wide angle on the action. Anyway, before I turn this into a lengthy post I will get to the point. Justin and I are about to start the production phase of our 2008 chase highlights dvd. I am looking for a high-res close-up satellite loop or pics for May 24th. I have seen such pics from past events, but have no idea where to look for them. I like to draw detailed maps of satellite and radar overlays of storms with detailed features. If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, anyone else have a bunch of video they have yet to go through? If you have gone through anything, have you found any cool shots you didn't remember taking or any funny moments. I would definately like to hear some of your stories.

I always go through video of an event as soon as I get back, so I'm always "caught up" on that. I completed pre-production work on my next DVD several weeks ago, but decided last week it was too long (150 minutes). I still have to go back through the master tapes of all the segments I'll be cutting from, but I know the general areas. I'm burned out on 2008 right now, so I'll most-likely redo timestamp edits in August/September.

Found some really cool tornado shots from May 24 (via lightning strikes) that I didn't notice in real-time, and even one tornado that I did notice (I'm talking about it on video) but had forgotten about.

As far as funny moments, we never run out of those.

I am in the process of going through the video to decide what's to be in the 2008 highlight DVD. Like Shane, I typically do well to get most of the storm footage on the computer within a day of the chase, but its the off-ended pre-chase stuff I have to sift through. My other issue with this season was I made the transition from SD to HD so I have a lot of days where both cameras were in use. That's adding a bit to my production time.

Nothing of note I've found yet as I am still working. I'm taking a trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend and am hoping to have the pre-production stuff knocked out in the week I get back (week before classes start).

Craig got most of the "interesting" footage while I got the mundane. However, I'm attempting to piece together a five-minute montage from my million or so tapes. I'm not sure, however, if some of my footage out by Dighton KS on May 22 is of a legit tornado or just deceptive distant haze coupled with the wall cloud (filming on the E/W highway by where the DOW was parked, looking NW). I normally wouldn't consider putting footage up for free on Youtube, but I might make a little "boring as last year's vacation slideshow" piece with Tool's "Disposition" running in the background. Couple shots of hail and structure and cow #*$ blasting my car can keep interest for that short song, at least for my supportive friends and family. Will probably donate a copy of the "film" to the local NWS as well.

Looking for better footage next year with a year's experience under my belt and perhaps some practice actually learning how to work the camera without shaking it, filming overbearing sunshine, or focusing on the wrong things. Probably will look back on this some years in the future and rofl.

I watched May 24th video when I got home that night. That was my girlfriend's b-day and she was awesome letting me chase that day and watch video that night.....never complained once. I made it up to her later though. The rest of my videos from this season I hadn't watched until recently.

Darrin, I had Justin use Tool's Disposition in last year's May 5th video. Tool is one of my favorite bands and Disposition is obviously one of my favorite songs. It really captures the awe and beauty of watching storms. I actually plan on selling this year's video so we are only using music we can buy rights to.

Greg + forums = FAIL

I notice something interesting every time I watch the May 24th video. We were ~200 yds from the 2nd tornado 3 times during its lifecycle, and we seem notice something that we missed or didn't put much thought to each time we watch it.

Greg, we have access to radar archives, so don't worry about finding radar images. Oh, and for future reference....you're end quote tag should look like this [/quote] :D

Not just yet though. We may have found producer for this year... I hope to know something be weeks end.

Mick

I was curious about Storms of 2008. Justin and I have talked about contributing video to the May 24th segment for this year's production. Our experience in video production could definately come in handy if you need someone to produce the May 24th segment. I have already done some brainstorming on how to put everyone's video together to show the lifecycle of that supercell and the tornadoes it produced.
