• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

"Recreational chaser" What's the difference?

The old grind of spotters vs chasers.
The idea that there should be animosity twards each other is anything but smart. Certainly not at all wise either. Did this episode of 'Storm Chasers' accidentally and unknowingly irritate and old wound that doesn't seem to heal? I think they accidentally opened up a can of worms on that episode.

Would there have been that many people in that traffic If it was only chasers and spotters on that road? Some of them had to be locals and the naturally curious. I remember Collyer Kansas in May 23rd, 08 - it seemed to me that there were a lot of lookie-loo's more than chasers and spotters.

Chaser convergence - is it destined to become worse?
Especially now that 'Storm Chaser' is a very popular series?
Uggghhh; I think so...

Sure, it will only get worse. That's why it wouldn't hurt my feelings at all if gas was back to $4 a gallon. Then, only the serious chasers would be out.

Wow...Really ? Labels, Drama, Drama, Drama, Are you getting my point, Drama, Drama.

Okay seriously, I watched two episodes of SC and turned it off. Discovery is portraying it just like they do with Deadliest Catch, DRAMA !

I personally don't give a damn what was said. To be honest, I have better things to do i.e. get ready for the 2010 season, watch football, grill out, etc...

For the record, I am not bashing anyone on the show. It's like golf, I will play it, but I can't stand watching it on T.V. Another thing is how the personality's are portrayed. T.V. can make you look like a hero or a zero.

"Recreational chaser" seemed like it was intended to be a derogatory term. What I thought was funny is the fifty or sixty "recreational chasers" who DOMINATED on finding the right place to be before the TIV, DOMINATOR, ELIMINATOR, INCUBATOR, ELEVATOR, ALLIGATOR, or any of the other "professional" chasers.

I wouldn't read too much into anything said during the show by anyone. Remember, there are hours upon hours (litereally hundreds) of footage condensed into a 42 minute show. And I guarantee that the narrator or the person writing the narration does not have a set agenda against any of the other chasers out there.

As far as "recreational chasers"... quite honestly I consider myself in that group. I've been chasing for 12 years, made money doing it, called in reports, have a Bachelors degree in meteorology, but honestly the only reason I'm out there is because I enjoy it and have been fascinated by storms and tornadoes since I was 4 years old. The second I stop enjoying chasing for chasing is the second I stop doing it. It is a recreation for me.

And finally, the "right place" was actually several hundred miles west in the Denver area as the Missouri storm failed to produce anything of significance (other than hail). I'm sure most everyone would've preferred to actually have been watching a tornado or five rather than sitting underneath a dead base/wall cloud.

I think we have to keep in mind that the show is oriented towards common people and not towards chasers, that's the reason why the narrator speaks about recreational chasers. I mean the common people that watch the show, and look at groups of scientists working with tornadoes and storms, have to know that not all the chasers are scientist or go around with Dows or probes but there's a lot of people chasing for recreational purpose. That's it. For this reason I wouldn't read too much into those terms.

I chased when gas was $4 a gallon, but give this guy's wallet a break. If it goes back up to $4, maybe I could go buy back my scooter and go chasing on that.

Back to the subject of this thread... It's like the debate about whether Pluto's a planet. In the end Pluto is still just gonna be some ball of ice floating around, and I'm still gonna be roaming the plains in May and June ( and modeling downbursts for fun in the off season).

For what it's worth, I chased with the TWISTEX team for part of the season this year, was involved in that June 7th cluster---- in Missouri, and even I would consider myself a "recreational chaser". One thing that did annoy me, though, was when people would follow us in every single turn we made while chasing. I'm sure it's possible they could've just had the same chasing strategy as the team did, but when they pull into the same gas station as the team did, especially when there are tornado warned storms nearby and are also other gas stations nearby, it makes you wonder what their plan was.

I don't think it's the term "recreational chasers" so much but how it was presented gave the impression that one group should be out and the others are just in the way. That was how I took it. But again I don't care about the label, but I am having fun with it.

I`m glad I was on a south road and not being bothered by you recreational chasers J/K:D but it was nice being by myself and not having to make it through the cluster till I made it to town ;)
