• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

RAM suction mounts

Well, I went ahead and bought the powrgrip mount. Well see how it works in a few days.

Does anyone have trouble when it comes to suction cup dash mounts? I dont mean to thread-jack but my question is along the lines of this topic.

I Havent yet purchased a mount, id rather not used a windshield mount [technically its illegal here in IL] but my dash surface is a hard plastic in which the suction cup that came with my GPS wont grip to. I dont know if thats because its a weaker design or if the hard and somewhat glossy surface is preventing it from gripping.

I was also leaning towards the film tools mount but wasnt sure if it could hold my older sony 8mm camera which is what I will use to stream. Im not worried about the weight but rather the camera width.

I have the film tools with the 4.5 wood suction cup posted earlier. Very nice unit, in fact, I am very tempted to leave the tripod at home and just use the unit off the hood of the chase vehicle, then I will not need to steady the tripod in heavy winds like I did last year.

Here's an option that I found works very well over the Film Tools mount which I do own and use regularly.

This is a Sony HDR-AS15 "Action Cam" paired up with a RAM Mount suction cup and 1" ball mounts. It's lightweight, small, and stays where you stick it.

In addition, the video looks remarkable. Extremely accurate colorimetry and a fabulous Zeiss lens.IMG_7988.jpg I'm not going to get into a "Go-Pro" vs. Sony debate as there are plenty of comparison videos out there to sell my point.

Plus! if you're fortunate, you can find these at a price point near a hundred bucks as they seem to be clearing these out.

I am looking at buying a windshield mount, but am curious on people's opinions. How many use windshield mounts? Have you had any "legal" problems, i.e. getting tickets from la policia? I have a RAM dash mount, that is just a heavily weighted base with 3 flexible arms. However the joint in one of the arms has broken so it's not quite as secure and stable on my dash so I have a fair amount of shaking. Are windshield mounts more sturdy(less shaking) or they pretty similar to a dash mount in the amount of vibration, etc?
Thanks!

I have a window mount for my Vixia that I mount upside down on the windshield. And usually my GoPro sits in the center of the windshield. The shaking isn't dampened much in eith, since there's no give in the joints. But I've never gotten static from the fuzz with them. At least not yet that is.

Indeed. I am search of a decent mount for my dash. I don't want a large contraption. Simple and does the job that I can remove in minutes.

check out the gopro suction cup mounts. very pleased with mine.
