i was not sure to do this as an official report or just as an fyi.
i was in the area watching a storm as it crossed hwy 24 near peyton colorado. i witnessed several lightning strikes in the area. within minutes there was major smoke and flames. as i arrived in the area i notified county 911 (who told me there were 10 fires in the immediate area) all the crews hit the larger fire north of the hwy. there was one south of the hwy as well. an elderly resident asked if i can help her. as i went to help there was a family who was fighting a part of the fire close to their barn. i jumped out and with other neighbors helped stop the fire from getting the barn, house and they got all the horses to safety.
they asked what i was doing in the area. i told them i was storm spotting and a volunteer firefighter. needless to say that put a good view of storm chasers helping the community.
