• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Oklahoma Weather Tracking Licensure Legislation

Fetgatter has stated multiple times that this bill is a "two-year" project. It would not surprise me if he suspended the bill until next year then re-introduced it. I believe the main issue right now is lack of support by the OHP and DOT. He might also be thinking he could gain support by using a tornado event in OK as evidence the bill is needed to save lives. Then again, since everyone is hyper-sensitive towards the driving antics of news crews, it could backfire if additional videos of bad behavior are posted this season. This bill is NOT going away. The concept is alive in OK and likley in other states. It's like an infectious disease just waiting to find a willing host.

The Oklahoma Legislature is on spring break. Apparently it started this week, but I can't find any info on how long that lasts.
OK Legislature spring break looks to be over. They last convened on 3/18, and have not meet 3/19 - 3/23.

As @gdlewen pointed out, HB2426 is not on the Daily Activity Calendar for today (Monday 3/24). This is good news. Their are 64 items are on the Daily Activity Calendar for today and they are not starting until 1:30 today. I suspect they are not going to have time and debate and vote on 64 items today. I can't tell if any of these items are considered consent agenda. On a third reading (note they likely don't have to read it entirely - first reading is publication only, 2nd reading is title only, and the rules don't say what third reading is but I suspect they don't read the whole thing), they debate for up to an hour (50% for/50% against, no 1 member may speak for more than 10 minutes, principal author gets at least 5 minutes and can close debate) and recorded vote. Note that no amendments can be offered on third reading.

Since they only have until Thursday 3/27 for a third reading, I fell positive, but....
  • It remains to be seen how fast they can move thru the Daily Activities Calendar, especially if items end up on there consent agenda (which the speaker can do if the committee didn't)
  • It isn't apparent to me if they have to follow these in order, or they can skip around
  • While I would like to hope that these 64 items are the leaderships priorities (and thus HB2426 is not), we have to assume that HB2426 could show up any day on the Daily Activities Calendar. Although the Floor Agenda (which is the list that is used to make the Daily Activity Calendar) has 174 items on it now.

I just got confirmation that their “Spring Break” was last week. Not sure why the calendar looks “empty” from tomorrow until Thursday. I expect that will be updated on an ongoing basis.

Regarding @Warren Faidley comments about this being a 2-year bill: I think that’s very possible. But that gives us time to mobilize even more effectively. I know I was caught off-guard by the quick movement of this bill in both House and Senate.

It went from “This is a bad bill that a Republican-controlled Legislature will laugh at” to “Holy Sh1t! What’s happening?”

All StormSpotters and Chasers operating in Oklahoma this year,
Please document/video/photograph (safely!) any unsafe practices by the "professional" media stars.

My understanding is the Daily Activity Calendar is only updated at the end of each session day and is only for the next day (i.e. all you ever get is a single day). Although they seemed to wait to the last minute on today's - it wasn't posted at the end of the prior session day which was 3/19. I didn't see it until this morning and I looked Sunday.

The Oklahoma "storm chaser legislation" is a complete waste of time and a kin to the Project 2025 plan to create chaos in every facet of "American" society from the local, state and federal level. Oklahoma HB 2426 which admittedly I have not been paying much attention much to, and if it has already officially passed into Oklahoma state law pardon my ignorance, will do nothing to stop "storm chasers" from pursuing the atmosphere, nor shall it ultimately benefit legacy weather media or the University of Oklahoma beyond a flashy mere power play not unlike the absurd light bars that so many love to display in the heat of a twisted moment.

On a separate topic, DOGE is complete nonsense as well and intended to dethrone democracy entirely by causing sheer angry confusion and is only intended to benefit the ologarchs that now attempt to "run" the government. The "break things fast" style tech bro energy ultimately will not work out for this country well, and imho, will come back to roost and bite the far from united states of "America" directly in the ass on multiple levels. We as a society and on all sides politically are already seeing boiling points at local town hall gatherings from state to state on a host of topics, many issues being far more important and pressing to both individuals, families and institutions than concerns over properly credentialed storm chasers, weather media, research or otherwise. What a divided nation this is, nor do I fear to voice this publicly!

It's time to make like The Beatles and "Come Together" again for a better cause, fight the darkness and remain in light. I realize for many that's a challenge to fathom, but it's all possible.

All the best for those who have and continue to "fight" this lame duck issue in the Sooner state. We're all counting on you!

Blake

I think I was more referring to the fact that the House General Calendar link for March 24 calendar was active on Friday but no link has yet been posted for tomorrow. Maybe after close of business today. [shrugs]

I am confused. There are now at least 3 OK House calendar links:
The House General Calendar page says this:
"The House General Calendar is created in the Chief Clerk's office by the Calendar Clerk. This document is published each legislative day after the Chief Clerk's Office closes its desk for legislative business....Additionally, the House General Calendar lists what bills currently reside on General Order, meaning which bills and joint resolutions have been reported out of the standing committees. While this means that these bills are available to be scheduled for consideration by the full House, it does not necessarily mean these bills will be scheduled for a hearing on the House Floor."

So my hope is that that the Daily Floor Activities is still the one to watch.

Baffling us with BS/ the old Razzle-Dazzle?

My browser opens that link to 3/18 not 3/19. (I may need to clear my browser cache)

Daily Activity Calendar--matches your report. It was not on the agenda for today. I did not watch the video so I hope it did not come up in a surprise vote.

House General Calendar--the entry for HB2426 is under "General Order" and just signifies the bill has passed out of all relevant committees. As far as I know it will be there listed under General Order every day until it gets a floor vote. As far as I am concerned if it is listed as General Order it can appear at any time.

Not sure what I posted way-back-when but if I said it wasn't on the agenda I probably meant it was not "above the General Order Section". Or maybe it was not on that calendar when I posted the link. Or maybe it was not on the Daily Activity Calender when I posted the link. Or. Or. Or. (I asked my House rep and they don't know anything more than we do about when it might come up for a vote.)

Here's what I have been doing lately:

I keep the Daily Floor Activities page (https://former.okhouse.gov/Documents/Daily Floor Activities.pdf) open and refresh it to check for changes.

I keep the House General Calendar page (House General Calendar - Oklahoma House of Representatives) open and refresh it to check for changes.
