The NWS is considering termination of its listings of Commercial Weather Providers Serving the US and Commercial Weather Vendor Web Sites Serving the US.

A similar service is available at http://www.globalweatherpages.com/. We plan to add links to this and other similar directories as they come to our attention.

Please send any comments on this proposed change by September 15, 2005 to [email protected].

DISCLAIMER The purpose of this list of COMMERCIAL WEATHER VENDOR WEB SITES SERVING THE U.S. is to provide a source of information for U.S. businesses and individuals seeking more specialized meteorological products and services than those available from the National Weather Service. This list is purely intended as informational with no implied endorsement. For further information on these companies, you will need to contact them directly.

The web sites the NWS is considering do away with:

Mike did you find what their reason is for terminating this list of links? Im just curious if it was based on a legal decision, in response to s.786 or some other reason.

I would imagine it is in response to certain vendors going after the NWS. There are some vendors (one in particular) who has had their leadership proclaim that they are going to do everything they can to shut down the NWS.

It should not be surprising that the NWS would respond by not advertising those particular businesses.

Is there anything that says the NWS has to give these guys free advertising?

Nobody finds a met business by searching the NWS directory - this newfangled Google search thing will take care of it ;>
