Northeastern U.S. chasers

Are there a lot of people that chase storms in the Northeast? I live on long island and I am pretty much trapped and have to wait for something to come to me.

There are very few chasers who are crazy enough to chase in the Northeast, what with all the traffic and trees and hills. I chase occasionally, when I can, but I have never so much as seen another chaser on any of my local chases.

I agree with Howie that it's difficult if not impossible to forecast a New England supercell setup very far in advance. In this case my hours this week were going to be limited no matter what, so I had to pick a day to take off. I picked wrong.

Yeah...I have never seen another chaser either. Luickily though...I have 2 or 3 overlooks where you can see for 5-10 miles or so as storms roll in. So, if you can identify a trw and beat the traffic in time...you will have a good view. In fact, my favorite overlook is next to a Holiday Inn in East Greenbush, NY...which has WIFI availbel from the parking lot. Lucky deal for me but I miss the PLAINS.

I was born on Long Island and I am glad I moved to Iowa much more peacefull. I did like having the ocean right there though that was beutifull.

I know several people chase in the ne but I dont think many of them are members here. Some other wx sites I visit has alot of members from the ne.

(4) Forecasts & Nowcasts forum. In the Forecasts & Nowcasts forum, we allow two types of messages, as follows.
* FCST is for discussing forecast aspects of severe weather that has not occurred yet, from now up to 7 days in the future
* NOW is for discussing forecast aspects of severe weather that is occurring right now or within the last 60 minutes (photos and third-party reports are allowed).

The posts above were moved out of the 7/19/07 NOW thread since they did not pertain to "forecast aspects of severe weather" that was occurring at the time. As such, they were moved out of that thread and into this new one. Feel free to continue discussion relevant to the topic of the above posts here. :)
