Fred,
Payments should be $291 / month ($15,700 at 10% for 72 months).
Hopefully you had your financial calculator with you. I've had to correct many salesmen "mistakes" in the past. It's fun to see the look on their face when you whip out the calculator and say, "Now explain to me how you came up with that monthly payment."

Thanks for the info Jim,

Yeah Im a Mortgage loan officer and had my financial calculator with me through the whole process ( Im sure they loved me ).. The total sale was less than I thought in the end. My tags are up in September so we didnt roll tags in. I was thinking it was all going to be about 17k instead of 16k.

I will dirve it for 3 years and trade it for close to what I owe for it doing the math.

The main acomplishment is they got me out of my upside down, broken down Lincoln. Yeahhhhh! lol

I work at a manufacturing company that has a fab department. I tried to make a new bracket for my joto desk that would be fastened with the seat bolts. I only made the bracket to hook up to one of the seat bolts though and it ended up being too flimsy. I may be screwed trying to run a metal piece between the two seat bolts because I have a power inverter installed under the seat, so I would have to move that first. Anyways, I will take a look at it tomorrow and if I can find a way to get it done I can make a couple extra while I'm at it. We have lasers, brakes, etc. so it is no big deal for me to cut and brake a couple extra while I'm making mine. I will take a look at it tomorrow and post after that.

Cool man! Dont you have an 07 though? It may end up being different Im afraid than the 04.. I think this because Ramline has a desk that fits Xterra but only 05 and newer.. grrrr

For those looking for a laptop mount, I might have a solution for you.

I worked on a project for a guy who makes laptop mounts for semis. His website is www.cybertrucker.net. He designed the mount to attach to the framework underneath the passenger seat. You can adjust it to the postion you want and lock it down. The tray for the computer is made of wire mesh and has fans mounted on it to keep your laptop cool. It also has a wire bail to support the top when it's open.

The guy was selling a boatload of these things, but he was getting a lot of them returned because too many truckers couldn't figure out how to put the things together. He needed someone to create a 3D illustration to show how the pieces went together. That's where I came in. I created virtual models of the pieces and an assembly image as well. Another guy at work created a model of a seat and put everything together in a flyaround animation. It used to be on the front page of the Cybertrucker website.

You might be able to mount one of these if a truck, van or SUV because the guy put one in his wife's minivan. For guys without access to a machine shop, this just might be what you need.

Check your friendly local neighborhood truck stop, or order one online.

2003 Xterra here

I have the 03 Xterra and have dropped about 30k into it (60k now) and love it.... quiet, tough, decent enough power, and great for all my gear... ham radio, scanner, light controls, etc.

As long as you got a vehicle that wasn't just outright thrashed... you will love it.

Congrats!

I finally got under my seat to take some measurements today and I found out I'm screwed on trying to attach any sort of a cross member between the two seat bolts. The door side bolt is covered by a plastic molded piece, so you can't get to it. There was one other steel bar that went the width of the seat, but the nuts were spot welded in place and I definitely don't want to start grinding bolts off under my seat. So, I am pretty much back to square one. I'm starting to think the best route is just to take an angle grinder with a cutting wheel and cut out a 6"x6" square in the plastic molded piece (part of the center cosole) that runs under the floor mats. If I do that I can bolt my deck plate for the joto desk into the steel floor board like I did on my Jeep. I hate to cut a big chunk out of the floor of my new car though. When I did cut through the carpet on the floor board it looked like there might even be another piece of plastic underneath the hollow molded piece on top, so I may be opening a whole new can of worms doing that.
This is really starting to aggrivate me. I bought the only frickin car in the country that you can't install a joto desk in.

I haven't been paying much attention to the board since there have been no storms lately. Otherwise I would have added some info to this thread. I'm on lunch hour right now and need to get back to work, but I also have an Xterra. I've got some general information about it on my website.

Also to note: My blue lights are used for firefighting purposes only - never while storm chasing.

Machine shop in town... (I know these guys) Cost = $20

They took the standard mount I bought
( No holes drilled ) and bent the mounts on a machine that bends metal. They bent them so that they would mount similiarly to what they did in my old chase vehicle ( Lincoln Town Car ).

All is good and it seems very solid.. YMMV

Bringing this back up

I finally got around and got the RAM Mount that I specified much earlier in this topic. Install took well over the 15 minutes specified (maybe it was because of me...who knows), and I had to run to the Home Depot to get some bolts as the seat bolts were not long enough for the seat and the desk (Even though RAM Mount says that you can use the existing seat bolts). But overall, the desk is very well built and I feel is a very worthwhile investment. Pictures below.
