Soldier/Storm Chaser

Hi my name is David C. Watson, I've been a severe storm enthusiast since I was 5 years old. My dad used to chase alot and I would listen to all of his stories, so I took it to heart and began studying about it and learning all I could from it. I've been a chaser for the past 10 years now since I was 9. I would go with my dad all over Oklahoma. May 3, 1999 was a pivotal moment in my life and ever since then I wanted to chase. I've seen over the span of 10 years about a dozen tornadoes, count-less supercell thunderstorms of all shapes and sizes, experienced 3 high-risk chases, and loads of fun. I currently serve our great nation in the United States Army and currently serving a tour in Iraq. I plan on trying to get college done so I can go to Officer Candidate School, go into the Air Force and become a forecaster, retire from the military and work for the National Weather Service. Those are my goals for the future and I'm happy to be apart of this forum and interact with everyone.

Hi David, welcome, and thank you immensely for serving our great country. Your plans are awesome. Good luck with all of it... I'm sure you'll do well!

Hey guys

Hey everybody, my name is Joerg Kudella, I´m from Germany - from Stuttgart to be precise. I´m interested in severe weather ever since a lightningbolt hit the ground only 100ft away when I was eight. It scared the hell out of me, but somehow, since then, I got addicted to severe weather:-) Nowadays, when there is severe weather forecasted (which is not that severe and doesn't happen that often in Germany as you probably might know), I´m out there with my car and my laptop, chasing the few storms we have in summertime. But the exitement is not even close to what it feels like beeing in tornadoalley. I first went stormchasing in tornadoalley in 2008 with a group of 6, which was a guided tour (guided by an experienced german chaser). Next year I will be back with my best friend, and this time I will be responsible for everything. We´ll be in the Plains from April 26th to May 20th, and I´m really really looking forward to this. We own a Baron Mobile threat net system, which will hopefully get us right where we should be.
I saw 2 rather small and shortlived tornados in 2008 (which was obviously a hell of a stormsaison) and some stunning storm structure, hopefully we get to see more next year.

Well, I would really like to meet some of you guys in May next year, maybe at a barbecue or maybe under a supercell. See you and let us hope, 2010 will be an awesome saison.
I can hardly stand, time passing by so slowly till we get there :-)

Hi Joerg, welcome to Stormtrack, I read your story and it's similar to mine...I saw a tornado at age 2, and since that time was scared of storms....I've become attracted to them since learning about how they work and when/where they are dangerous, and when they are not. I chased last year in the plains for the 1st time, and am planning to go again this coming year (in about 6 months).

Intro: Born.

Middle: Grew up loving the weather. I love to watch storms and I hate snow, despite being in NY my whole life. Went to SUNY Albany for my undergrad., with a huge passion for forecasting, chasing, and mesoscale meteorology. Now I'm in grad. school at NCSU, but I am pursuing a professional career in forecasting, as grad. school hasn't been my cup of tea.

End: ???

Afterword: Profit.

Ok, my turn. Name's Phil (oreally?) Avid wx fan. never really "chased" a nado but have tracked them. Been in one of Phoenix's worst storms to date (when I lived there) but missed the Great Halloween Blizzard here in Mankato mn. Don't own more than 1 laptop, nor more than one HD cam. Don't have a chase vehicle. Currently serving into my 9th year in the Army. Been back and forth to Fort Benning GA for various training since October. In January I'll move- destination unknown. Hopefully somewhere positioned good for chasing. Never been hit by lightning (but felt like it) but almost hit by a dud mortar. Go figure.

I am new, Name is Joe and live in Columbia Hghts, MN. I have been interested in weather for most of my young live ( currently in the mid 20's) and chased storms once I got my license. I generally chase in the southern Minnesota area as I am a NWS storm spotter member. I work Part time, and i attend school full time to pursue a degree in engineering (civil). I chase only a a hobby, and try to take pictures during an event but it is hard to when seeing a weather event in its entirety, but I have been lucky before using a 6 megapixel camera. Use internet with wireless card for on the road chasing using NWS site.

Nice to meet fellow chasers,

Joseph (Joe is fine)

Wow what an incredible site. I joined here recently but I haven't had the time to check the place out. Now that I have I'm very impressed.

Let me now introduce myself.

My name is Ben Jacobi I am 20 years old and I live in Iowa Park, TX (20 miles west of Wichita Falls). I am an amatuer photographer and I love weather. I had the opportunity to meet up with a local chaser and he let me ride along on several of his chases. I am really looking forward to posting here. See y'all around.

Thanks.

-Ben

Welcome to all the new members! Ben, I've been around your area chasing quite a bit and it's a great area for chasing. I'm sure I'll be chasing down that way pretty soon! Maybe as early as this month I hope!

Newbie

Hello everyone I'm Duick 26 from Yorkshire England. I have been fascinated with severe storms ever since watching a few storm documentaries featuring Howard Bluestein and got finally hooked after watching Twister (yep I'm a memeber of the Twister generation).
I decided an undergrad degree in Meteorology was for me so ended up at the University of Reading. In the final year of my degree I was fortunate to spend two semesters at OU in Norman in 2005/2006. Currently undertaking a PhD in Urban Climatology.
There I finally fulfilled my ambition to chase storms. During the fall season of 2005 I managed to see my first supercell (TX) and US tornado (Fort Supply, OK) while a passenger with two well known storm chasers. Unfortunately the spring of 2006 was not a great one for tornadoes which resulted in much frustration. Since then I have been back chasing in the plains on a couple of occaisions but still no luck on the tornado front (bad luck, bad planning and lack of real time information)!
I am back stateside this April in a quest to see one looking for a chase partner) and hope to pick up some hints and tips from the Stormtrack forum - See you out on the road!
