Hello everyone, new to the forum. I am originally from So Cal, but moved to Indiana in 1994. I love storms, can't get enough of them. Lately, I have been taking photo's of them when safe to do so. Here are a few of the recent pics I've taken from home. Some of these clouds were pretty eerie, nothing like I've ever seen before.

Those are some nasty looking clouds. I would be going to the basement if I saw those coming. Looks like a wall cloud maybe that is in a very humid enviroment prehaps.

No basement, and I couldn't go into one anyway, I tend to go from window to window watching. Yes, it is pretty humid here, that storm really came in quick, I didn't have time to really get the camera settings right. I had to adjust them in digital photo pro, because my f-stop, and shutter speed was off. With that storm, they were calling for 70mph strait line winds, but it wasn't that bad when it did come through, it was just nasty looking.

A lot of time storms have a bark that is worse then it's bite or it looks worse then what it really is. On second thought I think that is a roll cloud or shelf cloud and not a wall cloud. They are quite common and look very nasty whe in fact they are judt pretty to see.

Someone at another site(car forum) mentioned shelf cloud, I'd never heard the term used before. As much as I like to watch the storm come in, lightning is what really peaks my interest.

Me too but it still freaks me out when it is really bright and the thunder is super loud. I never sleep at night when there is a thunderstorm since I get woke up a lot.

Yeah, it can startle you for sure. My wife used to have panic attacks when larger storms came in, but since we had the new house built, she does ok.

Speaking of storms there are some really bad ones entering western Ohio right now and they seem to be moving east and southeast but they also look like they might be forming towards the north as well. The SPC just upgraded my area to a slight risk for tonight. Just on the edge but the risk is still there.

We're under a severe thunderstorm watch until 2am. There's a line of storms NE of us just hitting Terre Haute, I'm in Bloomngton, so it's still a ways off, but headed our direction.

Definitely a shelf cloud from the leading edge of that storm.

Yeah the worst storms are in Ohio right now. I would not be suprised if they issue a watch for my area but then again the NWS often forgets Mahoning county where I live for some reason.

I guess I might be spot on since they just issued a MDS for my area for a possible watch.

AREAS AFFECTED...CNTRL/ERN OH...NRN WV...FAR WRN PA

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 050126Z - 050230Z

BOWING SEGMENT IN WRN OH IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE EWD...WITH A THREAT
OF DMGG WINDS. AREA IS BEING MONITORED FOR A POSSIBLE WW.

BOWING SEGMENT ACROSS WRN OH IS BECOMING BETTER ORGANIZED...LIKELY
IN RESPONSE TO SUBTLE HEIGHT FALLS AND STRENGTHENING LOW/MID LEVEL
FLOW. ALTHOUGH THE AIR MASS ACROSS CNTRL/ERN OH IS ONLY WEAKLY
UNSTABLE ATTM...WLY FLOW WILL ADVECT MOISTURE/INSTABILITY TO AREAS
DOWNSTREAM OF THE CONVECTIVE COMPLEX. ORGANIZATION OF THE COLD POOL
ATTM WOULD SUGGEST THAT THIS SYSTEM WILL BE MAINTAINED...AND IF
SUFFICIENT DESTABILIZATION CAN OCCUR IN ADVANCE OF THE COMPLEX...THE
THREAT OF DMGG WINDS WILL CONTINUE PAST WW571. A NEW WW MAY BECOME
NECESSARY.
