• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Need help configuring WeatherScope on a MacBook, Not loading data

I just joined Stormtrack, looking for help with WeatherScope....As a weather enthusiast (not a chaser or pro), I used to use GRLevel3 to track storms in my area...Now that Ive switched to a Mac, it looks like my only decent software option is WeatherScope....So far, I love it, maybe more than GRL3...But Im having problems with radar products....

I have the program mounted and have all my maps and shapefiles loaded for my region...I can load all products like gradients, contours, observations and advisories. But I can only load a FEW radar products...

Im only getting 1 base reflectivity, but no base velocities at all. 1 enhanced reflectivity and 1 enhanced velocity, but almost NOTHING else...In fact, the Inspector pane is just an empty white box....

All of the asos and nids files are in place (at least I think they are), downloaded from the datasets here. I was thinking I could try datasets from a different source, but I cant locate any and Im not sure how to configure WeatherScope to pull data from a different source...

Anyone have ideas why I cant load radar data? Am I missing some files and datasets? Or can anyone help me get and configure different datasets? Thanx!!

I have a WeatherScope configuration that has nothing but RADARs that are slightly transparent to create a large mosaic. I've not messed to much with anything else, though I sometimes overlay some air info.

Configuration for new data sources involves delving into XML files. I gave it a go about a year ago and started to make some progress but gave up (I was trying to get APRS).

As to your issue, I'm not sure. I've never had any problem, other than heating up my poor MBP, running more than 20 RADAR sites. If you could, save your configuration file and post it up here. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and see if I can replicate your issues.

I know there are ways to emulate and actually run windows, but Id rather run in OSX and not deal with Windows again....

Ive tried to upload my folder, but even compressed its about 100kb too large for the uploader....

I really think Im just missing some datasets and xml files...The mesonet link above has plenty of datasets, but its a little vague, quite redundant, and has alot of stuff that just isnt useful for me....I need to figure out which files I need to run WS without the other junk....

Does anyone have a zip file full of datasets or a link to one? It would save a ton of time rather than downloading each xml from the mesonet one by one.....

Andrew, just for fun can you try to pull up things like echo tops and VIL from KPAH???? If they show up on your machine then maybe I can just copy your xml files and see if they work for me...

FWIW, I cant seem to load satellite data nor lightning detection either.....I can create the layer, but its blank like the radar data....Also, the lightning detection layer has a lock symbol on the legend...Cant do anything with that layer....

Well I still cant load certain stuff, so I emailed the Mesonet and they arent pulling data from KPAH either....Dunno whats going on with it....Any further ideas?

Can someone give a quick primer on where and what data weatherscope stores on my Mac?

Is everything stored in the "Weather" folder created in my directory? Does this folder every become very large (like hundreds of mbs) and if so can it be purged?

I just like to know where everything is on my computer.

Everything is stored is the Weather folder. Data is stored temporarily, so when you close WS all the data is deleted. The only files you keep are the xml's for your data feeds and the wxscript files, which are the maps that you create. Files sizes are very small.
