Mobile-friendly weather websites

I've maintained WAP weather pages that make for easy viewing on mobile phones, smartphones, and Pocket PCs for a couple of years... While I do need to make some important updates and changes (such as adding sectors 4-7 to the SPC mesoanalysis pages), I've found it to be relatively useful if you're having computer problems or otherwise need to access weather information (radar imagery, satellite imagery, text products, wind profilers, surface observations, etc) with your pocket PC or cell phone:

http://wap.tornadocentral.com

This page had an outtage for a few days for the reason reason why my GRLevelx placefiles were disabled couple of weeks ago. That said, everything should be back up and running.

Note also that the NWS/NOAA maintains two different sets of mobile-friendly pages with much information as well:

http://cell.weather.gov/ --> WAP page that works best with mobile phones (or phones without an HTML browser)
http://mobile.srh.weather.gov/ --> HTML page that runs well with smartphones and pocket pcs

The Norman NWSFO (KOUN) now also has their own mobile-friendly page at --> http://www.srh.noaa.gov/oun/mobile/ . This website is HTML-coded, but it's designed with mobile phones (with HTML browser) and Pocket PCs in mind, it appears. The included GraphiCast graphics are nice as well, but they're compressed so much so as to be nearly illegible in my experience. Nevertheless, it's a great resource, IMO.

Edit: I moved my post of the the Pocket PC Software thread since it's not exclusive to Pocket PCs, nor is the content of this post really about software.

I think there's a coding problem with this site but I'm looking forward to taking a peek at it...

What problem are you having with it? I've tried to work out most of the bugs, but I'm sure there are a few hiding still ;)

Note that the above page is coded for WAP (WML), which means it won't display properly (or at all) if you're using non-WAP-capable browser like Firefox and Internet Explorer. That page is designed for browsers included on most cell phones.

Or... you can download the WML extention for Firefox, which will allow Firefox to decode and display WAP pages --> download it at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/62

I tried it via my iPod Touch and just saw code and nothing formatted. Thus, I thought you had some errors in there...

Digging up this thread because I was reminded of the iPhone/iPodTouch - WAP incompatibility by someone else a few days ago. If I remember this summer, I'll try to make a "sister" page that is coded in HTML (as opposed to WML - WAP, which the iPhone apparently doesn't work with well, or at all). It should be a relatively trivial task if I can set up some scripts to convert WML tags to HTML tags.

Hey Jeff, just wanted to say thanks to you for keeping your site up to date. It's my go to source when I'm looking for mobile friendly sites, or even GRLevelX files. You've done a great job with your site!

Are there any good mobile friendly sites for a quick radar glimpse or some place that offers watches/warnings sent to mobile via text?

There are a few options but they are not free
You could try Swiftwx mobile depending on what kind of cell phone you have or Weathertap who has one of the best Mobile sites and fast loading I might also add. They both offer free trials so you can try before you buy.

For watches and warnings most local tv stations in this area offer email alerts for breaking news and severe weather

and you can also get alerts from this site for free
