• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Millenicom Cellular data

Just wanted to say thanks to Kurt for posting this.

I got my Millenicom card last week and it's working great off the local Sprint EVDO network. The cost has gone up to $59/mo., but it's worth it for contract-free unlimited high-speed data.

For those who have received the message that you are not in the coverage area ... this is most likely because you live in an area currently covered by a provider who has an agreement with this company. You can still order and use this card, however. I also got this same message ... but ordered the card through the website anyway. Super fast delivery ... and now I have a contract-free card with unlimited data that should work with both Sprint and Alltel towers.

I'll be using thiswith the EVDO package from Maximum Signal to hopefully have data just about everywhere this year.

How do you have "local Sprint EVDO" coverage if you got the message that you are not in the coverage area? Are you getting EVDO speeds, or just 1xRTT?

Millenicom is nothing more than a Sprint re-seller. When you buy from Millenicom, you are basically a Sprint customer - - - Millenicom reserves larger quantities of bandwidth from Sprint and then parcels out and re-sells that bandwidth to its customers. They are most likely forced to provide people who request coverage information with the message you received to avoid creating competition with the parent company. Working just fine for me - at EVDO speed.

I understand that they are a re-seller. I was just wondering why you got that message, too. Kansas City is in a Sprint EVDO area according to their coverage map.

I am not quick to jump at this as my area is not listed in their EVDO area. If the thing about only getting EVDO without sprint is through Alltel is true, then it won't work for me, as Alltel does not exist in central IL.

Verizon needs a reseller like this (unlimited data and no contract). That would work out. :)

I don't know of one though, anyone else?

Has anyone heard of Millenicom. I have read up on some of there gear and noticed that they use Sprint towers but charge 10 dollars less than sprint. So that would be about 50 a month without any contracts. I read that they maynot be as fast as Cable/DSL but its faster than satellite. There is also no cap on data like Verizon or AT$T.

Does anyone have any opinions on this company or know how they operate? Are there any catches?

Before the chase I thought I would tether my Verizon KRZR with their data plan. This worked great in the Wichita metro but when I tried to connect in Russell, KS after a spotter talk it wouldn't work.

So I dropped that and went with Millenicom the next day. After chasing near Wichita Falls, TX yesterday I was very pleased. The only area that I noticed (I was out by myself so couldn't really keep track) that didn't have coverage was on the Kansas Turnpike between the south terminal and the KS/OK state line.

The service costs $60 for unlimited data plus a one time setup fee of $60. You basically lease their device month to month and bandwidth from Sprint and whoever they have agreements with. I coupled the modem with an external antenna and it seemed to work great.

The speed of the connection varies but using GRLeve3 had no problems. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to buy a 1 or 2 year data plan contract and the equipment to go along with. I plan to keep the service through about late June or maybe as long as July.
