Microphone Issues

I have an icom 2720. Turned it on yesterday and noticed that the buttons on the faceplate were not working. So I tried the microphone and got nothing; like it was dead(the mic).
I unplugged the microphone and the radio worked fine...of course I cannot transmit.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this? Thanks for any insight.

I hate it when that happens.
Obviously, there is something shorted or open in the mic or the cable is intermittent, or the plug has a broken wire in it. My money is on a broken wire on the plug, as that is the most common mic ailment that I've seen. Unless you have working knowledge of minor radio repair, then its off to the radio shop for you!

Thanks...it does help as far as I will need assistance. i found someone local willing to look at it, but i may have to find a replacement mic. i am assuming that is possible. Hopefully, the friend will be able to help if it's a minor problem. Time will tell.
