Well, as I said in a previous post today - this has been a year of firsts.
I bought a new car for the first time in twenty years.
It was my first official year storm chasing.
First time I drove out alone to my farm in Iowa.
First time I went to Kansas on a storm chase.
Saw my first close-up of tornadoes in Kansas.
First time I bought a real camera and learned photography for real.
I was asked to help Buena Vista County IA to be their official storm chaser.
The NWS approved my eSpotter status.
It was the first real chance to go to and explore storms as they occur until they point that they die.
And, after reading STORMTRACK for years, it was the first time that my membership was accepted.
And more...

That's a lot of firsts - don't you think?
I suppose Tim has the right and the responsibility to all of the members of STORMTRACK to be looking out for the same.
If he feels that these actions are necessary to rid it of dead weight and spam (I haven't seen any of that one); then he is acting responsibly and is seeking to improve the lot.

STORMTRACK is his baby and responsibility - bottom line...
That's one of his firsts - as far as we members are concerned.

It's mind-blowing that there are 13 pages for something so trivial. If your membership, by rare chance, gets deleted, you can still view everything except for bar and grill...big deal. If it gets deleted, sign up again and maybe Tim will grant your membership. They're cleaning up spam accounts and those who haven't posted much.

Tim runs the site, and he has the right to delete everyone if he wants to.

Just curious – If a member accounts does indeed get deleted – what happens to the few posts that they have already made? Is there still a username attached to the posts or will there be a void. Or do the post get deleted with the user account prune?
Again I am just being curious.

Yikes

Looks like I better identify myself. I may be quiet but I don't want to be considered a scary lurker. I've got a lot of respect for the forum and would rather not post unless I've got something intelligent to say/ask. Guess I'd rather error on the side of quiet rather than one who rants. I'm sure Tim is looking for a reasonable medium here. This is my first post so I'll just say "Hi" and introduce myself. I am Stephen Locke and would hope to be considered a legitimate storm photographer not a lurker. As evidence I present my Tempest Gallery. http://stephenlocke.com/blog and my newsletter with a couple short movies. http://www.stephenlocke.com/septembernews.html I'll set the intention to be more talkative betwixt now and October 1. And, as soon as I finish this I'll go update my profile. Respectfully, Stephen Locke

I'm surprised by how many people are upset by being asked to contribute, I am with everyone else.. if you don't want to post, why have a membership? I'm also surprised by some of the excuses people are throwing out for not posting. There are dozens of non-weather related threads members can participate in.

And what's with the "I don't have time" excuse? I've seen that mentioned a time or two, what is meant by this? Nobody is that busy that they couldn't login and make a post at least once a week, there are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.. nobody is that busy that in a period of 7 days they didn't have even 5 minutes free to login and make a post.

You have time for what you make time for. That said, there are a number of weeks that I do not make time to even lurk...let alone post. Just as -- in season -- there are a number of things I don't make time for in order that I can lurk *and* post. That's why I'll have to weigh in with the ones who say a person's contribution should be measured over a significant time frame....by that I mean a year or more...and not by an arbitrary count, but on the actual contribution made by a person's posts.

Im also not sure how I would vote...I enjoy reading everyones post and being a member even though i rarely post its nice having the option when I feel it important. Hopefully I can manage to post enough to stay a part of Stormtrack

It's interesting how the 'dump the lurkers' poll started out way ahead on the 'agree' line, but now that the lurkers have come back to make a short appearance, the 'disagree' line has caught up...

Here's an attempt to save my account. I can honestly say that I refrain from posting on this board because of a select few that seem to only be members for purposes of degrading others in the storm chasing community. I do however enjoy having my account and keeping up on what's going on so that I am up to speed when I talk to those who I choose to associate myself with. While I may not contribute my forecasts to be picked apart by a few members, I do appreciate the option of being able to ask a question once in a while if I can't find an answer on my own. Besides, anyone who would like to check out my forecast on chase days is more than welcome to visit my blog. I usually try to keep it updated during chase season.

So that's my 2 cents. Time to wait and see what happens.

That is very interesting.

It's interesting how the 'dump the lurkers' poll started out way ahead on the 'agree' line, but now that the lurkers have come back to make a short appearance, the 'disagree' line has caught up...

It is very interesting indeed. I always wondered what poll results would be like you could go back and change your answer....that would be an whole different dynamic.

I'm such a geek about these type of things...that's one of the reasons I started the poll....just a personal fascination with how results come out. No real purpose behind it but personal interest on the subject.

Keep voting....I certainly want to see how it turns out.

I think we need a poll asking who is ready for October 1st to come and go so this crap can finally end, and who wants it to go on forever. Judging by the length of the main thread, I'm guessing that one would be pretty mixed as well.

I am ready for October 1st regardless of whether my account is left opened or not :-) It means we are one step close to fall and winter getting here and being gone and spring arriving :-)
