Hey friends,

Hey my wife doesnt head out with me when I chase....while she loves that I have this hobby, its sometimes a little too intense for her.

I sometimes stream live on severestudios but often I dont. I also have spotternetwork running at all times.

How can she see where I am at when I am not streaming? Can I give her a link to find me on spotternetwork? I dont have my own website etc, and I would love for her to just being to periodically check in to see where I am in the world :)

Got any thoughts?

Eric

Thanks James,

2 questions though.

1. She doesnt use radarscope so thats not an options
2. On a chase day, wont there be like 600 spotters on the google map? Wont it be hard for her to find me???

If you used ChaserTV you could embed the iMap tracker on your webpage with it centered on and displaying just you. ;)

Your position should be on there even if you aren't streaming. Just as long as you're getting GPS coords out through the tracker.

I have pretty much the same situation Eric, and I second what Skip said.

My wife can watch or follow me on ChaserTV.com if I'm streaming or not, my position always shows. It helps her know that everything is going good (and I'm ok) especially if she can see my stream. I have a map on my website and can be seen at both places, but since you mentioned you don't have a website your wife could watch you at the ChaserTV site.

Edit: Another option is use the GPSGate Buddytracker that shows your location on a Google Map. She would have to log in to GPSGate to follow you, but it works pretty good. The only thing is if you lose internet connection it doesn't automatically update, so she would have to reload the screen every so often just in case.

Thanks Sean,

I will check out Buddy Tracker!

Any other ideas?? The spotternetwork has a google map integration using your own ID but I have no idea how to do that!

If you have GRLevel3 on your home computer, she could see your icon with the spotternetwork placefile. Again, she'd have to search for you amongst other chasers, but at least there's the option to display names instead of scrolling over all the little dots!

There used to be a widget that could be used to track just one chaser using google maps and spotternetwork but for some reason it stopped working a couple of years ago. The folks that made it have not made a fix. I think there is a way if one knows linux but my computer knowledge is not good enough.

ATT has a "Family Map" add-on and I suppose Verizon and others has something similar. ATT offers it free for 30 days FWIW. Maybe an option for you. So long as you stay out of the seedy bars and topless clubs, you'll be OK.

Google Latitude might work pretty well and it's free. It's especially simple if you both have smart phones, but also works well if you have the smart phone and she just has a gmail account. It just tracks your phone's GPS and plops the coords down on google maps. Sometimes the update frequency gets a bit sparse, but it's worked well for me.

Here's your Spotter Network solution, which gives you a map with just you on it:

http://skip.cc/chase/maps/sn.php?id=392

Substitute the id # with your Spotter Network number "spotter num" or "num" as it's listed on their data:
http://www.spotternetwork.org/data.php

Do a search on the page for your name and you should be able to find it if you're actively pinging Spotter Network.

If the id isn't active you just get a map with no marker. You should be able to bookmark that page too, so your wife can just go to it and see you. Anyone who is interested can rip the javascript out of that page and use it on their own site too.

That's a bare bones implementation. It just shows your position at the time of the page load. Refresh the page to get the updated position.

Thats exactly what I was looking for Skip!

Nice!

I would say "coffee on me" but I would look too much like a groupie with you around the TIV boys :)
