Lightning photos

Not a fan of shooting lightning after long chases, but I'll do it every once in awhile. I always either 1. Miss it, or 2. Overexpose it.
Here's one from March 12th, 2006 near Marshall, MO...just a few minutes later a nice wedge would appear.

lightning bugs and lightning

I have a couple from spring '07. Although I just started lightning photography this year I was very pleaed with achieving something that I always wanted to capture together... Lightning bugs and Lightning!!!

When the bugs first emerged there were everywhere!

A first for me with stars above the thunderstorm:

And of course the cleanest, sharpest shot to date:

The moon, an iridium flare and ISS/Shutlle.... those are my next challenges.

Excellent pictures everyone! Mike, I love that Devil's Tower shot. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

I want to play too :) Sorry about the annoying frames.

I captured this the first time I ever tried shooting lightning. I was so stoked after seeing it that I jumped up and almost knocked over the camera. :)

My all time favorite. The storm that had gone through earlier in the evening knocked out many of the green argon tubes in the main building.

The previous 3 shots were all taken on the same night.

Another of my favorites, shot from a very bad part of town at about 1 am.

I shot this in big bend during the most incredible thunderstorm I have every witnessed.

Another of my favoites. The headlights going by are a police officier who drove by several times. I'm surprised I didn't get talked to, as it was around 1 am.

James: that church is awesome foreground scenery! Go back there and try to get a bigger lightning and you have an unbelievable shot!! Great composition!

Marko: You made some of the best lightning shots I have ever seen in Europe. My favorites are the ones with the high vantage point so that you can see the contact point with the surface. Amazing!

I hope everyone has a great photography season this year.

This doesn't hold a freaking candle to the shots posted before me, but I nabbed this one tonight. This is my closest one yet. Unfortunately it didn't come out very well, but still made me jump quite a bit.

Dan, the shots with the courthouse and the one at the bridge are awesome. The stuff I see from you and your brother always inspires me!

Thanks for all of your comments.

Lightning examples from the Florida Keys. The very best period for lightning in the Keys is during August and September which goes along with the hurricane season and the greatest threat for waterspout activity... very exciting, busy time of the year.

All these beautiful photos have proven my theory... I suck at photography!
Seriously though, those are some amazing photos. Definitely belong on the walls!
