i have a buddy who lives out in Tucson, AZ, and every once in a while I like to see what the weather is doing out there. since he's in the desert southwest it's mainly to see how damn hot it is. i don't check in detail a lot, but noticed this tonight on the weather summary for the last couple of days. Tucson has reported a relative humidity of just 3% the last couple of afternoons, allowing for a temp/dewpt depression of 90 degrees each day!! today it was temp of 90 and dewpoint of 0, and yesterday a temp 78 with a dewpoint of -12!! imagine what the cloud height bases would have to be with a spread like that!

Roswell, NM on that same day was 94/-34, so that ob isn't totally out of the question.

I posted this to a tv station weather blog about a week ago.

I live in Tucson, and my home page is the NWS/Tucson home page. I glanced at the dewpoint the other day saw it was a -4. I really had to do a double-take, because you just don't see that too often...even here. Dews in the very low single digits are not uncommon, but the -4 was weird to see. It's not uncommon for a lot of us locals to suffer from light nosebleeds every once in a while.
This super-dryness will typically continue until the end of June. Then, moisture from central and northern Mexico begins to seep northward and primes us for our thunderstorm season, which we down here call our "monsoon". With single digit dews and June temps of 105 to 113 (the "Godless" Phoenix area, two hours north, is always 7 degrees hotter-yucch) one can see why I much prefer to chase the alley for a month beginning in June, as opposed to May. I really hate June in Tucson. I'm darn glad I live here, but get me outta here in June.

i'm surprised the heat index was still 85, only 3 degrees lower than the air temp. you would think with zero percent humidity, it would have at least felt like 75!!! LOL weather never seems to cease to amaze me!
