I'm looking for some new chase DVD's to show to my Earth Science students; that includes some of the better chases from last year. I realize the market is becoming saturated with video and I'm sure most of it is good, however, I'm looking for something that is going to make my 9th grade Earth Science students say, "WOW!" They will get plenty of education from me regarding storm basics, and will see footage from past years thanks to previous purchases from some of you. I need: Impressive storm strucutre, lightning, large hail and obviously some tornadoes. If you've got it all in one DVD (sorry, no video cassettes) I'd like to hear about it.
I've read some of your reviews of other chaser videos, and there are lots to choose from. But imagine yourself as a 9th grade student. They want to see the power of mother nature, something that will make them say, "Holy Crap!" :) To make this a little easier, what are the three best chase DVD's, and in a short description why? What makes your three choices stand above the others? Thanks!

One of my favorite intense videos of the year would be Scott Blair and Jason Politte's video. It is only 1hr long but it is intense. Might be my favorite video of the year.

Also Shane Adams video. He got some impressive video from those days in sc KS. I really love his Mulvane tornado video for some reason...as well as the angle he had on the Argonia torando. The commentary seems to be the most enjoyable I've seen from those two events as well, and that goes a long ways with me.

Roger has another nice video. It is on the right hand side under best sellers. It has a few intense sections. 1 is his from May 22 in sw NE. The other 2 aren't actually his but they are on the video from sc KS May 29 and another from nw IA June 11(Dave Gold's group got these).

If you want the more intense scenes I'd say those 3 might round out my top 3. That is not picking to be voting for friends either. There are a TON of GREAT vids out this year.

Dave Lewison's May 12 footage is intense to say the least as well.

I have favorites for different reasons but these are likely the more intense ones kids would get a kick out of.

I seriously think you could close your eyes and throw a suction cup dart at the market place screen and be safe(well, for the most part). I'm leaving out some amazing video here.

Yeah, like his own. LOL. Mike's production values are as good as they get and he had an amazing 2004, with many storms and tornadoes that are exclusively available on his work. Exclusive as in, no other chasers on whatever planet he's chasing, it seems sometimes. His supercell and the crickets. While the rest of us are in Norman drawing our climo maxima. Heh.

Mike's vid is mandatory for any top 3 list.

Well, here is my top #3 picks for chase DVD's released this year...

Mike Hollingshead's "The Dream" DVD
Shane Adam's "Love" DVD
Bobby Eddin's "Chaseone: 2004 Highlights" DVD

..Nick..

I tried to keep my list to just ones that were kind enough to trade with any chaser that asked, as for some reason that is important to me. So take from my list what you may.

I haven't seen very many of these chaser collections. But of the ones I have seen, I'd like to recommend Mike H's video and Jeff Snyder's video. Both have amazing footage.

Just my $0.02

I currently only have 3 tornado dvds
Mike H
Amos
Bobby Eddins
All very good
I also have the Hurricane DVD as mentioned in Marketplace on this forum. that shows some savage weather. Totally different but if you want severe weather worth including in a collection.

One of my favorite intense videos of the year would be Scott Blair and Jason Politte's video. It is only 1hr long but it is intense. Might be my favorite video of the year.

Also - Blair and Politte's efforts this past year HAVE to be recognized:

Much appreciation for the favorable comments Mike and Gene - it's fantastic to hear that our video has been well-enjoyed. Scott and I really strive to create videos with high production value, and it's always good to receive feedback. Thanks again, and I'll reiterate that both the Rhodens and Mike also have spectacular DVD's that shouldn't be missed.

Also, for those interested, Scott and I have decided to continue the Christmas sale of 2003's "Season of Significance" and 2004's "Timeless Journey" as a two-video set for only $30 available in both DVD+R and VHS formats. Details can be found at:

Ten percent of the proceeds from all of our video sales will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Mike,

I am currently working on the second edition of “Another Boring Chase Video!†When it is finished in a week or two, I’d be happy to send your class a free copy. The current version wouldn’t be appropriate because it contains two much “adult languageâ€.

The new edition of ABCV will be will be a 3 DVD set documenting the 2004 chase season by Eric Nguyen and myself.

ABCV Preview: http://www.mesoscale.ws/video/copyright_Sc...ott_Currens.wmv

ABCV Reviews: http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3906

DVD I
March 27th Western Oklahoma supercells and tornadoes.
May 12th Time lapse of an LP supercell and the Harper, KS F4 wedge tornado.
May 24th The tornado machine when crazy on this day! We observed 5 mesocyclone tornadoes and countless landspout tornadoes.

DVD II
Southern Kansas does it again with what many chasers consider the Storm of the Year. The entire second DVD is dedicated to the May 29th southern Kansas supercell.

DVD III
June 9th Colorado supercells and tornadoes.
June 10th Big Springs, NE tornado and hail.
June 12th The Tornado of the Year Mulvane, KS.

At the risk of offending others with outstanding DVD’s, I will list my four favorites from 2004.

1. “Plains Gone Wild/The Dream†by Mike Hollingshead
2. “Atmospheric KAOS 2004†by Charles Edwards
3. “Timeless Journey†by Jason Politte and Scott Blair
4. " Violent Praries" by Gene and Karen Rhoden (This may be the best one. Somehow I lost my copy and can't remember everything that is on it.)

Thanks to all who have taken the time to provide feedback to my post. How can I go wrong with the choices I have to make? I can't! The previews really help when making a decision as to what I should consider purchasing. However, I do have to be careful about one thing. Language. I realize as chasers we say whatever comes out, and it really all depends on what is happening at the time of filming. Been there done that myself. Showing any video with the "F" word will likely get me reprimanded! And I know kids hear worse in halls of the school, I just don't need to contribute. :) Of course, I can push fast-forward on the remote. Anyway, we'll be ordering from some of you real soon.
To Scott Currens - thanks a bunch for the offer! My classes will enjoy watching your DVD and we look forward to it. My school address:
