How Many Threads On Stormtrack Are 'New'?

Jeremy, don't be afraid to speak your mind. If you post a ridiculous thread and people get bent over it, let them cry it off... Just don't get offended if people don't agree with you.

Just from what I've seen here on ST over the past 5-6 years, it's apparent that some decide that recognition / having your name known, credibility, community conformity, DVD sales, and pretty pictures on a website are critical to success... while others believe that personal opinions and experiences are more important. It's up to you to decide what's right for you.

Personally, I'm not into the whole "community" thing. I'm on ST for one thing - share useful information. If people don't recognize my name, I don't really care. My life experiences are my own, and I don't need the almighty recognition in order to enjoy them. Hell, if I was constantly worried about what the "community" or l33t chasers thought of me, I wouldn't have committed "community suicide" multiple times ;)

This ain't a "chasing" thing, it's just the way the world works. A group of 20-year veterans at anything aren't going to be receptive to a newbie who comes in and starts spouting off opinions. To put it more bluntly, I just don't care what anyone has to say if they haven't put the leg work in. For your opinion to matter, I'm gonna need to see some results first. If people don't like my attitude, they can block me, go find their own forum, or actually start chasing.

All I'm saying is that if you're a n00b, and afraid to post your opinion out of ridicule by a "community" (any community)... You look weak, to me at least. I would much rather see someone post their thoughts freely so that others can oppose, leading to a good learning experience. If they're an asshole about people opposing their views, then it's a learning experience for everyone else.

I do not think ANYONE has informed Jeremy that he should not post. I think what "we" have been trying to say is basically what SMOK has said..."tread lightly" As far as flying under the radar, I think that is a good idea simply so that he can spend more time reading/learning.

I'm bumping a previous thread about using the search function so some of the newer users will hopefully read it and perhaps use that handy little search box in the upper right corner of every page on this forum. Seemingly every week there is a new cell phone or data thread, a new phone apps thread (the "radar app for Driod threads are getting old), and finally, the ever famous "chase vehicle" threads.
Forums are only as good as their content and if content is not easily found, what good is it?
Just some helpful and hopeful advice.

The problem is that the search functionality was broken with the upgrade to vB4. People probably aren't realizing this and are getting no hits when they search for stuff, and then believe there actually are no threads on these topics. The temporary (hopefully) hack is to go to Google and start you search with
site:www.stormtrack.org/forum
Then Google searches only posts in Stormtrack. Hopefully we can get the search restored or downgrade back to vB3.

The search feature isn't working right. Since the V.4 upgrade it will only show threads and posts since the upgrade. If you want to find specific threads you need to click on the forum and either scroll through the whole list of threads or click on the top where it says "replies/views" and it will list them from most to least (depending on what one you click on.) It took me 35 minutes to search for a thread the other night. Hoping there is a fix for this, but that is beyond my (and other mods) controls. If you see duplicate threads and know of a thread from a few months ago or a year ago please understand it may stay for a while as we hunt it down manually and tie them together.

Danny, that's the point I was getting ready to make. Since this thread started over Jeremy supposedly getting hammered over starting a duplicate thread about regulating storm chasing, I tried doing a search in the forums on the word "regulate".

The response was: "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

It's no wonder, then, if someone who perhaps hasn't been here for years (and possesses a photographic memory) might end up starting a duplicate thread.

Now, what was someone saying about lightbars? :)
