Hooray for TWC........FINALLY!!

The Weather Channel now has radar intervals throughout their feature programming. So finally, during Storm Stories, or It Can Happen Tomorrow, for instance, viewers can catch up with the radar scans, albeit brief for now, without waiting up to a whole half an hour and wasting precious time, in order to see what their targeted cell is doing!!

One small step for TWC. . . . .One giant leap for Chase-kind!!

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't rely on TWC radar for chasing. It's good for the viewers who are watching TWC and living in an area where severe weather is occurring, but certainly not a giant leap for chase-kind. Aside from having your own DOW, it would be hard to beat mobile internet and using either StormLab or GRLevelX for radar and GPS tracking.

Frankly...at this point....I rather NOT see the radar in the middle of my programming. Internet much easier, clearer, with plenty of options.

I believe most every cable provide now has TWC feeds where it's 100% local on the 8s. I actually get 3 TWC channels (Verizon FiOS HD TV). 1 Regular/SD TWC with local 8s specific to my area 1 HD TWC with local 8s that are NOT specific to my area, and 1 TWC that is the local on the 8s...all the time...no programming.

Satellite doesn't. I have DirecTV and I only get the national feed which doesn't have anything local. Dish Network is the same way. They have no means to push the local info without tying up a ton of bandwidth. There's an "app" that runs on the receivers which shows local info based on the zip code, but it's kinda cheesy.

When I lived in NJ I had Cablevision/Optimum, and they had an SD feed with locals, but the HD feed was national. From what I understand, the computer that the cable provider installs at their end (WeatherStar) to inject the local data into the feed does not have any HD hardware available yet.

For me, who does minimal "local" chasing, and is not high-tech savvy, to be able to rely on weather radar "on the 8's" at all times can be a real boon to many. Actually, I think Channel 3's (Hartford CT) radar is a bit more accurate, but I can only see it during scheduled news times.

I don't know if it's in range for you, but if you have a tv with a digital (ATSC) tuner, you can throw an antenna on your roof and see if you can grab channel 3.6 or 21.2 OTA. Those are 24 hour feeds of WFSB's weather center (comes out of Springfield though, not Hartford). Most news channels now have one of those weather subchannels, so see what else is out there (I assume your locals are mostly out of NYC though, so you'd have a tough time with those).

KWCH (our CBS affiliate) has one and during severe weather they leave the studio mic open so you can hear the discussions amongst the mets, you can hear them reading and discussing what comes over NWSChat, spotter/chaser reports, etc. It's pretty cool.

You guys don't have FiOS down there yet? There was a roll-out center (VZ was a big client at my old architecture job). It's also only a Luxury if you can afford all the fees, taxes, etc. (I can't, pretty much loosing money living here now).

I have to say that I would prefer to watch paint dry than to watch TWC. >:-D On a side note, I have heard that they have been playing music from the Tron soundtrack.

They do! I was all when I heard it.

I heard the Tornado Hunt live coverage with Bettes during the aftermath of the Joplin tornado was okay/good today. They're getting better with regards to severe weather coverage.
