Hail Size

I've gotten lucky this year. Largest hail for me was quarters on March 8th. I've been in baseballs twice before, but have never lost a windshield.

Largest I've accidentally subjected myself to was on April 20, 2010 when I was next to the Bushland, TX tornado and was getting pummeled with golfballs. My Mazda sustained a couple of minor dents on the driver's side, but nothing huge. I think the fact that the hail was soft helped a lot. Other than that, I've been lucky and show up after the huge hail has fallen.

Yeah, that's about how I have been for the past couple of years. When I first started off chasing though I would often end up in a hail core. It only took me two years to realize that I was putting myself in that situation and needed to study storm structure more.

Since then unless I am stuck in traffic or surprised by a storm I don't see the hail until I drive past the remnants left by a storm. Though on occasion I have been camping and had a hail storm come up on me... The nice thing there is that you can pick up the bigger stones and refill your cooler! :D
