Group buying power

I'm thinking of items that we could coordinate doing a group buy on to help reduce pricing. Was thinking things like Bosch wipers for instance. Many chasers have talked about using them, even have 'a chaser' advertising them. It doesn't have to be Bosch either on wipers.

Just thought I'd throw the idea out there. I don't mind doing some of the leg work...it's been done before in both my car circles and my ham radio circles.

How exactly would this work?

Kinda depends on the vendor and the price. For small items, usually one person collects money from those committed to pay, and the order is place.

In other cases, it's the vendor that collects the money directly and once the 'threshold' of the min. order is reached the product then ships. It also tends to work better when shipping is going to one location (like chasercon).

There are all kinds of ways really. First thing is to throw out ideas for what folks might be collectively interested in. Hotes/motels don't tend to work because it's no a physical product. Sometimes you can bulk on on services...but hard to say what we could do. Car wise...a common one is a collective 'dyno' day where 10 to 20 cars get dyno tested in one day. Bosch was just one idea I threw out because I've seen the threads talk about wipers and more folks switching.

Maybe a tripod. Try to get B&H to give a bulk discount on Bogen model

How about a bulk purchase of UV filters or similar.

Just thinking out-loud on some other ideas.

That real nice windshield camcorder mount some people here use????
That's not a bad idea. Who would be open to that idea. What is the manufacturer...I can certainly do the calls. I might even be in on that too...gonna try to change up from web cam to SD camera for streaming before heading out.

That's the reason I subscribed to this thread. I'd be very interested in a windshield mount since I know a good one is not at all cheap.

I'd be very interested if this were to get off the ground. Subscribed.

Yea when we were doing our little "Chaser Store" we tried to get the Filmtools mounts and they were not really willing to work on Price.

The hotel thing has teeth... personally I buy all my rooms on Hotels.com since the 10th night is always free and is from them directly so you can choose any chain.

Yes, the Filmtools unit is the one I had in mind. The only thing is, I've noticed more and more stories of police citing people for having something attached to the windshield (obstruction of vision), so I've been leaning more towards a mount that is located between the seats so the police have one less reason to be upset.

The two budget killers for me are FUEL and HOTEL. I don't think Exxon is going to help us out any.....but I sure wish we could come up with SOME way to save on that hotel bill.....

That's a point I haven't considered. Rather than a particular chain...which would be near impossible to get working well because of the diverse names used by chasers.

There are prepaid fuel options, but they again don't tend to work well with chasers due to the diverse names used (in part because of the extensive territory we use). It is more of an option for fleet type companies. However, there is nothing lost to look into it. One thing I had looked into in the past, but found it to be basically a scam, is prepaid fuel cards, luckily I did my due-diligence prior to purchase, and passed on that.

This sounds similar to how Groupon works.

In any case, if the product at hand is something I am interested in I would be willing to participate if finances allow.
