Has anybody had a problem with GRLevel3 getting radar updates?
Today, I was in the DFW metro area with a great internet connection, but GRLevel3 would not download radar updates. It would count down to 0, then start the countdown at 1:00 right away without even attempting to download. If I stopped the program and started it again, it would get the update.
Others traveling with me had no problem.
It was very frustrating chasing in the metro area at rush houer and having to start the program over constantly to get updates.

Try downloading the updated software that supports TDWRs. That is what the radar site northeast of DFW is and unless you have the new version of GR3 you'll run into that problem.

Sorry if this is a horrible question that has an obvious answer, but how do I load a TDWR station into GR3? I just looked over the list of sites and didn't see one near myself located. Are they just now rolling out with a few sites added? Or is there some special way I need to go about getting that data?

Launch GRlevel3
under the HELP menu, select CHECK UPDATES
if there is an update it will say downloaded and installed and then direct you to close and restart GR3
with all software, you should keep checking for updates and restart the software and check again to make sure you have all the updates. keep doing this until you get "No update available" besure to restart GR3 between each update.
this is very simple and usually takes a few seconds even at the slowest connection.

To expand a little on what Walt said, I still had version 1.50 and when I would click on the 'Help' drop down, there wasn't anything available about "check updates".

I went to Internet Explorer and searched GRLevel3 updates and found what I needed. The first time I tried the upgrade, I got an error message. I realized I still had a copy of GRLevel3 open, so I closed it and tried again. Worked perfectly and installed upgrade with version 1.52. Version 1.52 does have the 'check updates' section in the drop down which will make it easier in the future to stay current.

The key is to have GRLevel3 closed when doing an update if you don't see the 'check updates' feature in the Help section.

I think the "check updates" is in place to check for a new radar.gis file (essentially check for any new radars added to the data stream), but it does not check for new updates to the application itself. Mike can correct me if I am wrong in this.

Note that I think it's really in the best interest of the GRx owners to check out the GRx Owners' Forum from time to time. There's a lot of very good information over there, and it helps you stay up to date on the latest placefiles, application versions/upgrades, and so forth.

IF you were trying to poll Granger (KGRK) or Dyes AFB (KDYX), they were both down yesterday (and the day before and today!) and you would have the problem you described. Granger did show 1 scan but it was dated 2 days ago.

The best indicator we have that significant weather is in the offing is when the Granger Radar goes down. (It is maintained by a military contractor not the NWS folks)
