• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Grlevel 3 Polling issues

i had the same problem friday while chaising in nebraska. koax in omaha, was usually 15-20 minutes behind on gr3. the "next update" box in the lower right hand corner was continually highlighted red and it would countdown to zero, nothing would change on the radar and then it would countdown again. i thought it was possibly something with me and my program on my computer. glad to see it wasn't just me! happened again yesterday morning when i was trying to look at the storms in alabama, except the radar was more than hour, possibly two hours behind if i remember. one other question. sometimes the next update countdown time starts at 6 minutes and sometimes it starts at 10 minutes. right now it is at 10 minutes on the koax site. anyone know the reason for this?

I had an issue a few weeks ago with some radars not updating any data I believe it was the mid east coast area, actually just not showing anything when i click on the radar site. I am with allison house and I pinged another friend about it and he had the same problem. So for whatever that is worth...

Because the radar is in a VCP mode that takes 10 minutes to finish a volume as opposed to 5 or 6 in precip modes.

That can happen when a region of the NWS goes offline due to a cable cut or something similar. That's why everyone ever having a concern about missing or delayed radar data should hit the radar status page before messing with their software or posting.

yea kinda hard to prevent a fiber cut. most of it [should?] be underground but nothing is perfect after all and everything gets wear and tear from time and weather.

I have using GR Level 3 over the past few weeks and have experienced no problems with the free data from NWS

Ill watch it more closely over the next few weeks

Just got the 10$ data/radar suite from Allisonhouse and works very well, consistant 5 min updates on radar VCP 11, heavier traffic with SPI with storms moving through. Plus a ton of other very nice data features. WELL worth the money

I was going to ask what you guys use while chasing. We were down in Kansas/Nebraska the other day, and got no access with our air card, and extremely spotty cell service, even to make a call. You could forget about data. We pretty much chased the entire time with no radar. Anyone using Mobile Threat Net? Seems like that would be the way to go.

That's exactly what Threatnet was made for. Hit the "search" button up top and you'll see plenty of threads about it. Good: always on, no need for cell. Bad: updates and resolution are nowhere near what you get with GRx apps.

talked to someone in another forum, and he told me that the nws was looking into the data issues from last weekend and have implemented some fixes and are looking to improve the server. I did evaluate it this weekend and from home the free data free was much better at updating even with the back to back high risk days, i still did have some issues a few times, but from what the guy i talked to said was that they seemed pretty committed to fixing the problem.

I was quite shocked and nicely so, that on the high risk on the 10th I never had any radar issues on the free NWS. As many chasers that were right there, there was also not any internet disruption of notice. Seems as though maybe it will be tough to top the demand of that day.

BTW...what is the URLs for the free radar polling anyways? Didn't find much on the other sites that don't need you to sign in as an owner (which for whatever reason I've never been able to get onto).

Jason,

If you registered to use the owner's forum after purchasing GRL3 you should be able to access the website. There is a ton of valuable information to be found there and I can't imagine being without access as an owner of two of their products. It's the best place to find answers to any questions you may have and to stay abreast of any updates to the program(s) as they emerge.

Perhaps you have forgotten your password and just need to click the link to recover it, or you can have the activation email resent by clicking that link as well if for some reason that wound up in your spam folder or something similar. Here's the URL to accomplish either of the above two options:

http://www.grlevelx.com/owners/ucp.php?mode=login

I hope this helps you out.

Thanks,
Mark

No...I never even get an email period. I think it has, in-part, to do with the fact I'm not the one making the purchase of the products/services. Never "forgot" the password because I've never gotten on in the first place.
