• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

GPS tracking and SkyWarn repeaters

If anyone has access to a database with SkyWARN repeaters, locations, lat/lon, frequencies, PL offsets... I would be more than happy to create this as an overlay for StormLab and host it on our server such that the end users won't have to worry about updating it.

Matt--I just added your placefile to GR3, and I'm in heaven. Now, I can turn it on when I need the info, then turn it back off. It only shows me Skywarn repeaters, and you drew the lines to show the links. I am looking forward to you adding the stand alone repeaters as well. This is a very valuable resource to those of us who travel long distance and still want to be a spotter. Thank you again.

I don't think such a database exists.. There's all sorts of lists out there, but they are of varying degrees of accuracy, content, and 'currentness'. Most of the lists I've come across are just ALL repeaters in a given area. That's basically what the original GRX placefile turned into. It's not just Skywarn, it's basically EVERY repeater in a given area. I'm trying to come up with a list that ONLY consists of repeaters that are monitored by NWS. That's why I sent out an email blast to pretty much every WFO asking for info on what they monitor. Only received a few responses so far, but it'll all be good info.

That file is missing a lot of data just from what I can see of the repeaters around here.. It is missing quite a few K-Link and Kan-Okla system towers, plus there is no PL for any of them. I'll see what I can add to update the Kansas/Oklahoma area.

I furnished most of the repeater entries for Texas in the file you are referring to. We intentionally left off most of the repeaters and included only those that were of value to spotters. The repeater directory has codes for 'w' weather or SKYWARN repeaters and other characteristics of interest such as emergency power.

I contacted the NWS and other ham groups involved and got their recommendations to make the list as accurate as possible without a lot of clutter. The PL tone was included if it had one listed... There was a LOT of work by all parties from several states that contributed to the list. I just checked on GRL3 and the pl tone shows if it is in the list.

That being said, I reviewed the list a week or so ago and it is long in tooth and decided to get the latest edition of Travel Plus (available from the ARRL) and recompile the areas I am interested in. Steve Snyder was watching the list at its inception; I don't know what his interest level is now...

Travel Plus is the programed version of the repeater directory and a very good program; it is updated annually but I don't upgrade but every five years or so. It is also GPS driven if you wish to add more clutter to your computer screen... I prefer to make a list prior to starting a trip and load them in as needed.

The lat/lon has to be derived from the location since may repeater owners do not want the exact location of the repeater available to the Zombies...
