Some pretty fun stuff, it’s all experimental of course, but it will be interesting to see how their damage forecast are to actual incurred. As of now, they have estimated total US damage from Katrina at 7.35 Billion, with Alabama sustaining the brunt of that. I found the link in an article about utility companies using this model to forecast possible damage and preplanning crews and material for those areas predicted to be hardest hit. I love the disclaimer about their forecast are only as good as the NHC forecast.

Since first posting this, the damage estimates have doubled to greater that $15 Billion, with catastrophic damage expected in LA. In addition they are predicting a >70% short term interruption to gulf energy supplies and a long term disruption of better than 20%. I believe the wide spread impact of Katrina will reach much further than the actual damage path.
