Fixed Focal Length Lenses?

I'll approach this question a different way, not from the lenses but the camera. I think to do primes correctly you should have two camera bodies sitting in the car seat ready to go. I (like Mike) am addicted to my EF 10-22, but there are times it just won't work and a lens change is necessary. Problem is, in storm chasing much of the action comes at once. Think about the time scale of it, 4 hours of forecasting, 8 hours of driving to the storm, 3 hours of trying to maintain position .....and all hell breaks loose in 5-10 minutes. Many times a whole season narrows down to a few great opportunities on a couple select days. We just have to be ready for those moments and not fumbling with lenses. This makes a good argument for zooms, but in some situations, especially in low light the primes are still the best.

Thanks for the discussion guys. My concern was definitely the fact that the 50mm is not as wide as I'd like to have. Mike's argument is valid. I think I was trying to shoehorn a lens into too many different uses :)

As for the Sony's ISO settings, I have the A100, and it goes up to 1600, but with the A100, performance begins to go pretty quickly above 400. From what I've read, the 700 is MUCH better.
