Storm Chaser - Fabian Guerra dies in Car Crash

I saw this reported on Craig Maire's facebook page....

Very sad turn of events as he was apparently traveling to meet Craig to chase. :(

It has been told to me that Fabian Guerra was killed in an automobile accident last night in Iowa on the way to go meet with chasers Darrin Rasberry and Craig Maire.
I have no other details than what Craig just told me. He said he did not show up this morning to chase and he called his wife and that is when he learned that he had been killed in the accident.

UPDATE and DUPLICATE POSTING INFO:

He, Craig, and I were due to chase today. I knew Fabian since I began stormchasing last year, and Craig went through Greensburg with him. As an individual, he was one of the most enthusiastic chasers and intelligent people I ever met. I learned more from him than any other source about forecasting and weather, and he more than anyone else gave me the best nowcasting and professional care for our lives and safety when he was monitoring the dangers of severe weather that we were chasing when he was not.

No matter what, whenever something comes near today or tomorrow we won't hesitate for a moment to do it in his honor. But for right now, we're just stunned.

Thank you, Dennis, for posting this. I'll have Craig write up something on my account if and when he wishes.

I extend my deepest sympathies to Craig Maire and the family and friends of fellow chaser Fabian Gueera, even though I didnt have the oppurtunity of knowing him, I think of all fellow chasers as part of my family... my prayers are with those affected by this horrible tragedy

This is an unbelievable shock. Fabian was a regular chase partner of mine. We shared rooms at the chaser convention, and he saw his first tornado with me on May 21, 2004. We started out together on the Greensburg day with Craig and later met again on the road south of Greensburg in the damage path as the tornado was ongoing.

I really don't know what else to say now. Here is a photo of him in western Kansas on May 20, 2004.

This is sad news....

I talked to Fabian through the 2007 chase season and we always talked about meeting up for a local chase but things never aligned that way. We used to IM each other all the time talking about set ups and was a member of the old mIRC rooms. This totally put a huge damper on a great couple days out here. I knew he had a family with kids as well. It literally feels like I was just punched in the gut. I know Darrin and Craig probably knew him better than I did so I am extremely saddened to hear about their loss of a chase partner and a friend and it goes without saying that my condolences are with his family for the duration of this hard time.

Sorry to hear the sad news, of the passing of Fabian, only knew him a little bit from the chat rooms.
My condoleances and prayers goes out to his family, and everyone that knew Fabian. What a sad day.

Maybe more details will come....but I know it's a rough time for you guys. I really feel for his wife and Craig since they are directly involved in this. :( I hope that the track members chasing today do it in Fabian's honor. R.I.P.

Also, could we merge this post with the one Dennis created. Looks like we posted at around the same time.

I saw my first ever tornado with him on May 22, 2007 near Hill City, KS. A very fun and knowledgeable guy who I occasionally chatted with on AIM. This is a horrible loss to the chaser community. RIP Fabian Guerra. He will be in my prayers. Now ya'll go out and bag some big ones for him!

Horrible news, I send my condolences to family and friends; from his profile here "Happily married with 2 awesome kids" can't imagine how tragic it must be for them. Appears he was logged into ST as recently as late last night, likely excited and looking forward to a good chase day like the rest of us. Undoubtedly will be a lot of chasers chasing with a heavy heart today...

Very sad news, my thoughts and prayers are with Craig and Fabians family.

Sad news you never want to hear. My condolences to the family and friends of this great man. I can't imagine the loss his wife and two children feel today. Hopefully Fabian is watching over everyone today from the heavens above.

This is awful news, my prayers go out to his family and friends.

This is a terrible way to be reminded that the most dangerous part of our hobby is NOT the storm, but the amount of time we spend on the road. Be aware out there and drive safe.
