External amp and antenna for Alltel Card

Does any one know where I can source an external amp and antenna for my Alltel card (Kyocera 650)

I think that the amps are made by Wilson but it is the cables that I am struggling with. Does anyone supply this as a compete kit, amp, antenna, cables and all?

A lot of people here have had good success with amp kits from Gordon Spencer at Maximum Signal. A friend of mine purchased a unit from him last year that we had trouble with, which he replaced when it was out of warranty at no charge, and even upgraded us to a more expensive version for the difference in original price. I haven't had a chance to test this new amp yet against my Wilson, but I can at least say that the customer service is outstanding, and that several other Stormtrack members have reported that his amps outperform their Wilsons. Either way you go, an amp will really help you out.

I bought two units from Gordan, they work great, and he gives outstanding service. I use my amps with alltel. I am actually about to buy another amp and external antenna from gordan to put down on our farm since we dont have any other way to get hispeed wireless.

I've been doing alot of streaming over Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, and some northern TX. Arkansas not so good... Here's my setup and very happy with it...

Hi Stuart,

Sorry this is a couple days late, but you absolutely want to get Gordon's Amp/Antenna combo # 16175, Kit #1.

Customer Service is exemplary. I didn't need one item in this particular kit, so he swapped in two other minor pieces that were of more value to me.

You just won't see Best Buy (purely as an analogy here) breaking open a "package" and swapping pieces in-and-out for customers.

I ride with five bars 95% of the time in SD, NE, and northern KS with Alltel and Gordon's kit.

I use it with an old Wilson exterior antenna although I may upgrade that at some point (the antenna works fine but it's getting a bit beat up from old age). I didn't bother ordering an adaptor online for my card since my local cell retailer had one cheap in stock.

Just thought I would throw this in since not everyone knows there are more than 2 options out there on the market.

This may be a little off topic, but are the cell phone amplifiers safe to have inside the car or does all the power go out through the antenna outside the car? I have the Rockies Dual Band CA-819 Amp from Maximum signal.

Well these things happen; I'm sure they'll sort it out. It seems to come down to the fact that some providers seem to want to control exactly what equipment is being used on their networks.. fair enough.

I called my provider here and asked about the issue and was informed that as long as the equipment was IC certified for use on cellular networks they didn't really care.

In any case I'm more than pleased with the unit I have; build quality seems to be high and the tests I've peformed show that it does what it promises.

That is why it is good to know Cyfre amplifiers are the only ones actually approved by major Cellular carriers for use on the networks. If you read through the document The FCC has actually gone as far as ask for customer lists. The problem with hardware driven amplifiers is they take excessive bandwidth in the process of amplifying the signal for the device you have connecteed to it . You are happy and your signal is great but in the meantime other subscibers are being knocked off the network by you . Or even worse there are documented events where these amplfiers actually locked down an entitre cell sites.
The other problem here if you read the judgement is that Digital has basically told the FCC screw off and have not supplied any other requested documentation . Further action is pending against them for this. The carriers are pissed and they are the ones that started this whole thing with the FCC . And it is only going to get worse . The FCC is reveiwing all white papers and testing all cellular amplification devices in thier labs currently . In the past you could get your accreditation from an FCC certified lab when you applied for FCC approval . Well it seems some naughty manufacturers fudged their numbers. And now there is going to be hell to pay. I am sure yout Digital antenna unit works fine for you am glad you are happy with it. But the carriers and other subscribers are not.

Digital Antenna VS Wilson VS Cyfre

I own an AMP made by Digital Antenna, DA4000, and had nothing but issues with it. Bottom line is I started looking elsewhere for a more dependable unit. It was a step below the Wilson AMP I had that we ended up using as a foot warmer since it puts off so much heat and only helped with increasing my signal about 15% of the time. The Cyfre AMP's I have are the best AMP's made based on extensive testing of these 3 units over a 2 year period while chasing in most of Oklahoma, Kansas, and the Texas Panhandle. The Cyfre has helped increase my signal about 95% of the time. Less than 5% of the time I wasn't able to see a benefit from it or any of the other 2 units I have bought and tried. Right now I run 2 Cyfre AMPS. One of them is hooked to my PC Card going to the computer and the other is for my Cell Phone. I have both AT&T and Sprint and it works just as well with AT&T as it does with Sprint. Didn't matter which carrier I was using. So, if you want a tried and tested AMP go with the Cyfre.
