One thing that should be noted, the smaller box you go, you are most certainly loosing the main thing that makes having a "desktop" computer in your vehicle in the first place....ease of upgradability!
Ask yourself some questions, do these small boxes use generic motherboard factors, or are they using proprietary? If they are proprietary you are most certainly going to have to replace the box in 2 or 3 years when you want to upgrade to the latest processor. What about available memory slots? PCI slots for cards, etc etc etc. From what I have seen, you will lost this easy of upgradability when you go with these smaller boxes, and then were is your advantage over just using a laptop?
