Has this become an elite forum for serious chasers only?

Just wondering because I made a general joking comment, not directed at any person and consequently received several direct personal attacks. Mostly questioning my skill and experience as a meteorologist.

I'll admit. I live in CT and I don't do much storm chasing in this part of the world. Most of the time I'm stuck here waiting for any sort of exciting weather to come to me.

Now, to my defense. During the big Memorial Day weekend outbreak (was it 2004?) I drove alone from CT to the Mississippi for a chance to chase storms for one day. I saw some good weather. Not too many pictures since I was driving the whole time. My other two trips to the plains went ok. We chased storms on the first day of each trip then got shutdown by clear weather. That's life when you plan trips months in advance and live a thousand miles away.

It's been a while since I got to use this, but it seems appropriate once again. I'll sell you a bumper sticker version for your car if your interested B Ozanne.

What kind of joking comment did you make? If they let me post on here still, then it definitely has not become an elite forum. I can botch forecasts with the best of them.

I know a way to fix the "Elite" issue.

The board just need's to start putting the users age under their user name.

It would just have to be something like

Underage
18-19
20-21
21-23
24-26
27-30
30+

How exactly is that going to fix the 'elite issue'? I really hope that was intended to be sarcastic. Are persons 30+ better than anyone else by default? And on the contrary, everone under 18 should be ignored? Please explain.

What was the joke? And btw, nice script change to eliminate one-liner replies (which is the only reason I added this sentence).

Why does the auto insurance industry charge more for younger drivers? Why do they discount drivers who are married?

Just some food for thought.

If a younger "Member" is posting a lot of noise about how they are chaser legends in their own minds and now they are flagged as under age chasers, well the B.S. radar will be going off.

Then again if a 30+ "Member" is acting like a 16 year old flame war artist, well, then the DEE DEE DEE alarm will go off.

Excuse me, I believe that being 22 should hold no relevance to the arguments I provide on this board. Instead, I hope my 6 years of storm chasing experience, and my physics knowledge, since I have been studying astrophysics for 4 years, might be something this board would like to support not dismiss. While I may not be as experienced as some, I would like to believe that I chase respectably. I also certainly do not claim to be a “legend” since I know that hardly anyone knows who I am. Instead, I just merely would like to chase, and if possible on this board express my opinion without it being dismissed because of my age.

I'm going to answer your question with another question; what does car insurance rates have to do with elitism in a storm chasing forum? Are you suggesting that members who have lower rates are better chasers? Or are you suggesting that we use insurance companies' fee schedules as a way to judge a chaser's credibility? I'm still struggling to find your logic here.

If a younger "Member" is posting a lot of noise about how they are chaser legends in their own minds and now they are flagged as under age chasers, well the B.S. radar will be going off.

If you have a problem with a specific member, I suggest you deal with them directly instead of painting stereotypes with a wide brush.

In my experience, chasers who hang their hat on age or years chasing are usually doing so because they find themselves wanting in other categories that might be more equitably employed when quantifying chasers. Just some more food for thought.

And that my friends, is the whole point of this thread. Some people need to lighten up.

No Doubt, lighten up people. The whole bad arse gangsta crapper storm chaser thing is pretty old.

New members cry about "Elite Chasers" when the fact of the matter is a lot of us have seen so many people come into chasing, act like they wrote the book and told Doswell everything he knows and then a year or so later they are gone like a flash in the pan.

People who want respect from the rest of the members need only do a couple simple things. Learn to forecast and write up your own good forecasts that actually verify. Don't be afraid to call a forecast bunk like that junk in OK last week where the 500 MB winds were doing 95 Knots and in line with the 850 MB winds. BUNK, you can't chase storms doing 50 mph, you can only stand in their way.

Just chase, shoot decent stuff, have fun, and write up forecasts and go about it showing people you love what you do and don't care what others think in the first place. Do you honestly think I care what any other chaser thinks of me? A lot of people out there love to hate me but I don't care, I care about what my clients think and what they want.

You can have issues where you have to prove you are better then everyone else in chasing and it will get you nowhere fast. You can think your word is the law and blah blah blah and compete with everyone for everything, or you can just have fun.

It's just life have fun, don't take it too serious because you won't get out a live.
