Between now and the end of 2012, the entire fleet of WSR-88Ds (Weather Surveillance Radar -1998 Doppler) is scheduled for a major software and hardware upgrade. This upgrade, known as dual-polarization technology, will greatly enhance these radars by providing the ability to collect data on the horizontal and vertical properties of weather (e.g., rain, hail) and non-weather (e.g., insect, ground clutter) targets.

In support of this technology upgrade, WDTB has developed on-line training to help NWS partners learn about the system changes and provide ideas on how they might effectively incorporate these new data into their decision making process. Two different training paths are available depending on your meteorology background:

Im sure the answer is somewhere around here, but for others who want to see the answer quickly. Is there any word on when or if the public will get access to the dual-pol ?

Yes, those are some good little presentations to familiar with dual-pol. I watched it a few months back, but should probably watch it again here real soon as I seem to have forgotten some of it.

They just released this on Monday so I doubt you saw it that long ago ;)

They previously kept a few training modules from a few years ago there - this is the first of the full training.

Thanks, Rdale - Is it available in GR3 yet ? Will it ever be available in GR3 ?

No.
Yes. However I've not heard a timeline for adding those products to the L3 feed.

Actually, the site u posted is a little different than where I originally got mine. Still WDTB, but here is where I found them back a few months: http://www.wdtb.noaa.gov/modules/dualpol/index.htm

Also looks like the ones u posted are updated, so ill check them out too.
