Anybody found a solution for getting the Delorme LT-40 USB GPS working on Vista 64? The Delorme emulator doesn't run on Vista64...in fact they've now added a check and will refuse to install on 64, so the "work arounds" to getting it to work once installed cant be used. Argh! 2 hours of googling hasn't helped either.

For those running Vista64, what GPS puck are you guys using if not an LT-40?

note: gpsgate doesnt support Delorme USB out of the box so that's not even an option

I'm using it on 32 but I don't see any reason it wouldn't work on 64.
That old Delorme emulator hasn't been updated in a LONG time, I don't think they intend to actually. Some are even using it on Macs so it seems very versatile.

Read through all the reviews there on Amazon.

Tyler, I use the puck that came with WxWorks, Holex (or something like that). I am running 64bit Vista with Gpsgate with that gps puck and no problems.

The way I got it to work with their serial emulator was you had to put the program in startup, set it to run as administrator then when you restart you had to right click on a icon in the clock area and authorize it to run and that worked most of the time. Yea a pain in the butt but that is how I got it to work. Their is a thread on this board that helped me but I can't seem to find it.

I ditched the Delorme LT-40 and went with MS Streets & Trips.
The puck seems to be the problem with Delorme.
I run Vista 64bit and have found it to be the most unsupported OS system in the works.
I tried to down load the new MS Expression Encoder 3 for my streaming this week and it wont even run with out crashing on connecting.
Vista 64 is not very user friendly in many ways. Microsoft says they are working on it but I haven't see any improvements.

Unfortunately...that thread assumes it's installed. The installer now refuses to run on 64bit systems.

Tyler,

I spent a boatload of time helping others with GPS issues earlier this year and learned quite a bit along the way. Is Bluetooth an option for you (i.e. do you have native Bluetooth support on your laptop)?

Stephen Locke has a 64 bit Vista setup and he had a heckuva time getting it working, but eventually he was able to get it up and running with GPSGate and a Bluetooth dongle plugged into his USB port. I run a Delorme BT-20 with GPSGate and native Bluetooth on my laptop and it works seamlessly.

I believe Franson has a driver you need to install if you're running 64 bit Windows, but perhaps you already have it installed. Delorme uses a proprietary format that doesn't play nicely with other products and it's at the crux of why so many struggle with this issue.
