I want the best Antenna I can buy, what do you think is the best?
I`ve heard good things about the 9DB 30" Super Trucker Antenna.
Is there anything better for what we do with streaming and running the data cards?

To be honest the 5DB magentic mount that comes with the kit when placed on a metal surface such as a car or truck roof performs as well as any antennna when used in conjunction with the amplifiers.

Gordon
got it and tested it out yesterday, it seem`s to be better. Thanks.
Is there any way to test the Amp to make sure it`s working?
Like with an Ohm meter or field test meter or ?????

I hope everyone doesn't mind me reviving this thread, but after performing a search, it seems like my question is better-suited here versus a new thread. I'm going to take advantage of Maximum Signal's sale before it ends at midnight tonight, but I'm unsure if I should get the Shasta (Cyfre CA-819 amp) or the Rockies (Peak Reception Amp). I've talked briefly with Gordon at Maximum Signal and he has been very helpful with quick responses, but I'd also like to gather some opinions from other Stormtrack members as well.

The primary difference between the two is the Shasta offers 3w on the 800mhz spectrum whereas the Rockies offers 7w. Both amplifiers provide 2w on the 1900mhz spectrum. My primary concern is performance (not price). Here are some random questions that I have:

Is there a difference between the Cyrfre amps and the Peak Reception amps? Does one outperform the other? (differences in software-driven amplification, etc.)

I also read a previous post in which a Stormtrack member said that the higher the amplification, the narrower the signal. And to a certain degree, depending on the tilt/angle in which you are to the tower, 7w could possibly miss the tower. I realize that 7w will probably perform better when you are at great distances from a tower (say 60 miles), but will a 3w amp perform better when you are closer (say 25 miles)?

I'd like to narrow down my purchase before the sale ends tonight. I appreciate everyone's input!

I recently purchased the Peak Reception Rockies amp over the Cyfree amp based on the additional output you mentioned on the 800mhz spectrum. My understanding is that with the software defined amplifiers you will only put out as much amplification as you need to get back to the tower. So on the 800mhz output, you may only be putting out 2 watts if that is all you need to get to the tower. You will only be using the 7 watts peak power when needed. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback Jordan! I now see the line on the product description page for the Rockies Peak Reception that mentions that it adjusts to the power necessary. Assuming it does, then it looks like the Rockies package is the better way to go unless someone was concerned about spending an additional $40. I like the idea of having more power for the 800mhz spectrum. It may be the difference between having a connection vs. no connection when you truly are out in the middle of nowhere.

Does anyone else have any feedback before I click the order button in a few hours?

Thanks!

Three words for you Bryan: Just do it! I've been using this amp for the last three chase seasons and have never regretted purchasing it. It works like a champ and really holds your signal in those areas with weak coverage.

Bryan, just wondering...
Since it has been about 2 months since your reply saying you were getting the amp, how do you like it? Do you think it was worth the investment? Im only asking because I am looking into getting one for chasing this year. Thanks!

Yes much better reception with the amp and external antenna - a great investment. BTW stay clear of the wilson amp - I have burnt two out so far !!! The maximum signal amp just works :)

I just purchased the Wilson amp. 3gstore advised me the of the importance of matching the amp to the external antenna. I think it has something to do with "gain" or "impedence". So, I went with the amp they recommended for the external antenna I bought from them last year. They told me not matching it could burn up the antenna and I believe they also said it could damage the aircard or amp....I don't know,,,,It may have been BS to get me to buy from them only, but they seemed to be pretty knowledgable.

Hi Randy,

I haven't used it yet because I'm waiting until the end of March to buy a datacard and start my data service for the chase season. However, I've heard nothing but glowing reviews from folks that have been using them in the field. It seems like it's hard to go wrong with one. I'm looking forward to using it this year and will definitely post my observations once I've used it for awhile.

Randy, I purchased a Maximum Signal amp when they went on sale over the holidays and got to test it out both local around my area and across Kansas when I drove to and from Chaser Con and in comparison to not having the amp I would have to say the amp definitely made a big difference. With the exception of a few small holes that only lasted a few miles the amp was able to keep my bars nearly full for almost the entire drive. I highly recommend going forward with your purchase.

Ask any members here that have used Cyfre and Wilson . The Cyfre wins hands down and cost a lot less money. I have never heard of burning up an antenna from it not matching up with an amplifier. What do I know I have only sold a bunch of amplifiers and antennas.

Gordon, would you mind contacting me via pm so maybe we can exchange numbers and talk about what you think I need? Im highly considering getting the CA-819.
