Proudly Announces Its Fourth
SEVERE WEATHER SYMPOSIUM
November 5th, 6th and 7th, 2009

This is a forum for advancement in the study and understanding of severe weather events. If you are currently working in the field of meteorology, are a student of this field, are a trained severe weather spotter, or are simply a severe weather enthusiast, this symposium is for YOU!

The focus of the conference is primarily on:

•Understanding the latest techniques for severe weather forecasting
•Use of mesoscale and storm-scale modeling physical processes leading to the development of supercells and tornadoes
•Effective use of remote sensing in severe thunderstorm evolution and behavior
•Highlighting some of the preliminary results
of VORTEX II

Space is limited, so please register early!

Tel: 1-630-971-2000
Fax: 1-630-971-1168

We assume that attendees will have some understanding of severe weather meteorology in order to receive maximum benefit from the severe weather sessions. The symposium is designed to help meteorologists understand the current state of the above-mentioned severe weather topics. Rather than a conference where 15-minute talks are given explaining current research, these experts will be summarizing and challenging the frontiers of severe storm meteorology with in-depth talks and panel discussions. There will be extra time for questions and answers, and opportunities to network with current and future research and operational meteorologists across North America.

if you have any questions about this feel free to ask me. here is the same link if you would like to register. This is really a once in a lifetime oppurtunity with all the premiere researchers in the severe weather field in the world at one place all at the same time. should be an amazing weekend.

I attended two of the COD conferences in the past and enjoyed them a great deal. Paul Sirvatka et al are a class act, and I got as much out of the presentations as I was able to, being at the time an extremely inexperienced chaser. This upcoming conference looks to be a winner, and given its location, I can't pass it up. I've registered, and am really looking forward to it. Hope to meet a few of you there.

Bob,

Hope to meet you there! Al Pietrycha was added to the speaker's list a few weeks ago. For those of you who are meteorology students, juniors and seniors, and weather enthusiasts with some background in basic meteorology...this seminar will be amazing. Here's something you should know: the new dual-polarization radars will be out late next year and in 2011. New products, new analysis techniques. With dual-pole, one can tell what kind of precipitation you're heading into...big raindrops...or big HAIL. If you want to be inspired by Chuck Doswell and his photographic genius...and learn the latest and greatest in the area of severe weather...even some AMS conferences can't boast of the quality you see here...and designed for YOU. You want to talk to these guys? You can do that. Want to see panel discussions no one else would dare to have? Want to know the latest skinny on VORTEX 2? Then you HAVE to come to this. I know, the economy stinks, schedules are tight, you're busy...but with 3 meals (including the banquet) included, and the best severe weather meteorologists teaching you...sponsors and Paul have kept the admission price to $110 for students/enthusiasts and $220 for professionals. If you want to grow in your learning of severe weather...this is a fantastic opportunity. You've been to the Denver conference, now take your understanding to "the next level".

I really hope to see you there! Registration is due 10/16...you'll kick yourself if you miss it. If you were at the last one they had, and saw Al Moller do a re-analysis of the 1979 Wichita Falls tornado, you know how darn good the quality is with this conference. Trust me!

where was the photo for conference taken?

Just wondering.
Is there a list of presentations that will go on?

It kind of sucks that the event is taking up two weekdays being Thursday through Saturday, instead of Fri-Sun or something. That said, for the close proximity and price I couldn't pass it up. So, I'll be there!

The weekday thing is too bad, as it no doubt crimps a lot of folks' ability to attend. Regardless, I hope those who can make it, will. Based on past experience, I can safely say you'll be glad you came.

Eric, if you attend the conference, makes sure you stick a pitcher plant in your lapel so I can identify you. :D

I'll be coming down to the conference as well... I figured it was definitely worth missing a Thursday's worth of classes (which would be excused anyway for a conference) to go see the material being presented.

Of course, I do agree that a Friday-Sunday setup probably would have been a bit better, but for my schedule it works just fine.

I could not make it to this, if anyone has any comments on the conf. please post
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The presenters were great, the panel discussions were very insightful, and the DuPage people were great hosts. If they hold another one in the future, I'd like to go back.

I agree with Cort: the conference was great--not entirely what I had expected, but very worthwhile. Paul Sirvatka and Nexlab provide a lot of bang for a very reasonable buck, and I can't wait for the next COD symposium in a couple years. While I did my best to take notes, there was a lot of information flying at me; however, Paul made arrangements with the speakers to have their Powerpoint notes forwarded to conference attendees, and I'm really looking forward to going over those once they're available.

I'm not going to write more here since I've already posted about the conference in my blog. Click here if you want to read about the highlights.
