• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Code Use in HAM Radio

THAT is shocking. Coast Guard doesn't even teach code in basic at Cape May? They've ALWAYS used code.. When did this happen?

Wasn't that long ago I don't think...2, 3 maybe 4 years? I can't remember exactly, getting too old. It hasn't been a long time though.

Hey David,
How are you doing? I can't say that I know for sure what they are going to do with the code, but I just do not believe that they will get rid of it completely. My guess is that they may dump the code requirement for General and keep it for Extra. There is a huge group of Extra's out there who do not want to get rid of it for that level and I agree with them.
We need to get more Generals into the HF world to keep the hobby alive and I sure hope to see more folks try for their top license. It's a great hobby, especially when there aren't any storms to chase.
My wife bought me a new Yaesu Mark-V Field for Christmas so I have been having a blast DXing.
See ya under the SuperCells. 8)

Patrick

BTW, we still use Morse everyday in the airline world to identify navaids.

I agree Patrick. There is a huge group that didn't want to get rid of the Novice class, and yet they did. There was a huge group that didn't want the code dropped from the Technician Class, and yet they did.

From that way that article reads to me, the decision has already been made by the FCC, despite some 8000+ comments I think it was, and it's just a matter of time before they sign it in as fact.
