I picked up a Canon Rebel XSi this weekend at Circuit City for $639.99. They had the XS for $479.99. I'm pretty sure this was a good deal. Now checking, I guess B&H has the XSi for $649.99.

They have a lot of other stuff on sale as they're going out of business. Only caution is that all sales are final, no returns.

Buyer beware - Many of the deals at the Circuit City liquidation are not deals at all. Liquidators reset prices to MSRP and discount from there, so until they hit 30% and up, prices were actually better when CC was still in business.

For example, the XSi you mention at $639.99 is only $20 off B&H's price. After tax, gas and time spent, you end up paying more for a camera with no return options. For a B&M price to be a good deal, I need to see a savings in the neighborhood of $100 or more.

The XSi body-only is also $599.99 at Adorama. Previous Rebel models can be had for a song now, so I see little value in the latest model. Not to mention that refurb 30D's are killer deals right now at $499.99 - Much more camera there than any Rebel can hope to be.

I'm hoping some good deals eventually crop up in the CC liquidation, particularly on lenses, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, when I went there a couple weeks ago prices weren't all that hot.

I was hoping to pick up a scanner/copier/fax but the discounts were not that deep.

Good info!

Got one of those too - $159 for an HP all in one.

Circuit City is in liquidation right now. They are selling off their stuff for much less than what they sold it for, back in their "hay day", but still, this is more than what you'll find at Best Buy, B&H, and others. No deal here.

I recall that when CompUSA was doing a liquidation here, that all the stuff you really wanted was only 5% to 10% marked down. That's even though the signs outside the store said everything was 20% off an up. If you wanted a cute iPod accessory then you were in luck. Otherwise no. Overrated...

Oh man, thanks for posting that! I don't think we would have ever figured that out!

Remember, too, that "all sales final, no returns or exchanges" means that if you get it home and it doesn't work then you'll be shipping it off to the manufacturer for 8-10 weeks to get it repaired. But hey, it's $10 less than B&H (before sales tax... about $50, right?).

Good afternoon,

During my lunch break, just for kicks, I stopped by a Circuit City store that was in the process of closing up.

I remember recently buying a laptop Sony Vaio PGN FW-245 U/P at best-buy back in December for about $829 and change. Yes, this was before I brought it back because of the Vista issues on it.

Anyway, I looked for the SAME laptop in Circuit City, but it was out of stock, and they had the "lower" model down, the Sony Vaio PGN FW-235 U/P, which is the same, except the DVD drive is not blue-ray.

It had a red-tag on it saying "Special: **only** $1,129" ... $300 more than at Best Buy ... This is INCLUDING the so-called 20% discount.

So there you have it ... They get a laptop for probably $1,299 MSRP, mark it up $50 or so, and screw the customer. Then, they take a WHOPPING 20% off so it "appears" as a good deal RELATIVE to people who only shop at Circuit City.

There are many other stores ... Shop around! There is a very clear reason (after seeing the prices there) of why this chain is going belly up!

$640+...ouch.

I picked my XSi up when eBay was doing a 30% cashback through Live Search. Only cost me $500. Brand new, kit lens, you name it. Back in October, no less.

I love a good deal.

To be fair, prices during the liquidation are being set by four different liquidators, I believe. The folks who previously set prices at CC have no say. That's not to say CC's prices were ever very good, but nobody is as bad as liquidators.

Be patient with the Circuit City liquidation. The stores here in Kansas City went out of buisiness a few months ago. In the beginning the prices were horrible, but in the last few days of the sale I was able to pick up a Canon
HV30 camcorder for $450, brand new sealed in box. You just have to wait and keep an eye on it and hope every other Tom, Dick, and Harry does as well.
