Chasing w/ Mac Computer?

I chase with my Macbook and I just use it for WiFi service. I don't really have a radar program sans the accuweather program I have on my phone. With its small size, it makes it easy to maneuver in the car though, much better than my 17" HP :o

I have a Mac Book Pro 17" and wish i could use it to chase!

The issue i have is their are no data cards for the express 34 slot, some are just starting to show up but are high $$$..

I use a old dell laptop to chase I think most people would agree with me who run macos it's greate for everything but for chasing windows takes the cake.

As soon as I get my hands on a express 34 data card, I will use my MBP for chasing runing windows i assume, Unless someone comes out with some software for macos.

I am...

Anyone out there chasing with Mac Book. What GPS,software you using etc..

I have a 17" MacBook Pro 2.33 Core 2 Duo.

...Running SwiftWX and Windows XP in Parallels. I can boot into Windows on the machine but then I lose the Mac functionality. Works great. The author has told me that he wants to develop SwiftWx for the Mac so I can only hope to dump Windows altogether...

I wrote a small application that checks for a valid WiFi connection and then downloads mail and warning maps. When I use SwiftWx, I switch to connecting via bluetooth to my Treo 650.

I'm probably going to change my wireless plan to include less minutes and a USB EVDO dongle within the month.

Chasing w/ a Mac

I still use an older 12" Powerbook for chasing. While not the main computer I use (the mainstay is an old Dell Latitude c400), I always bring it to edit video, etc. afterward. In addition to WiFi, USB/cell phone connection works like a charm (Verizon), and didn't even have to download any drivers, etc...

I'm using an '05 12" Powerbook G4 running Google Earth with GPS tracking enabled along with the NWS RIDGE .kmz files. I get online via my tethered Samsung M610 on a Sprint PCS PAM plan. I'm also getting familiar with Weathertap's RadarLab HD, although I haven't quite figured out how to get it to show the velocity scans yet.

RadarLab HD only shows the Level-II Base Reflectivity at the moment. We are planning on adding more radar scans in the future. I'm currently working on adding GPS tracking to RadarLab HD.

what GPS receiver are you using?

Dude, you scared me! Google Earth Pro is $400! However, Google Earth Plus is only $20 and has the GPS tracking capability.

Wow - GPS on a Mac! Last time I searched for that there were NO solutions out there.....total coolness!

Oops! Sorry about that.

Yes, it is pretty cool. I was tickled pink to know I could see NWS RIDGE radar data in real-time, updated automatically, along with my position on the map by GPS, all on the Mac. I'm not as sophisticated in my forecast knowledge as a lot of folks here, but I know what a hook echo looks like and well as what a mesocyclone does on a velocity scan, so with the Google Earth Plus/Gamrin Etrex Legend C/NWS RIDGE .kmz file output, all online by way of my Samsung M610 tethered cell phone with Sprint PCS service, I pretty much have everything I need to chase.

Unfortunately, I can't do much else with the GPS on my Mac. Google Earth Plus will take waypoints and tracks off the thing, but if I want to load maps I have to use my home Intel-based iMac running XP.

I have managed to get internet working via a bluetooth connection to my Cingular 8125 phone, but doesn't radar data just crawl over cell?

What maps are you referring to here?
