• After witnessing the continued decrease of involvement in the SpotterNetwork staff in serving SN members with troubleshooting issues recently, I have unilaterally decided to terminate the relationship between SpotterNetwork's support and Stormtrack. I have witnessed multiple users unable to receive support weeks after initiating help threads on the forum. I find this lack of response from SpotterNetwork officials disappointing and a failure to hold up their end of the agreement that was made years ago, before I took over management of this site. In my opinion, having Stormtrack users sit and wait for so long to receive help on SpotterNetwork issues on the Stormtrack forums reflects poorly not only on SpotterNetwork, but on Stormtrack and (by association) me as well. Since the issue has not been satisfactorily addressed, I no longer wish for the Stormtrack forum to be associated with SpotterNetwork.

I apologize to those who continue to have issues with the service and continue to see their issues left unaddressed. Please understand that the connection between ST and SN was put in place long before I had any say over it. But now that I am the "captain of this ship," it is within my right (nay, duty) to make adjustments as I see necessary. Ending this relationship is such an adjustment.

For those who continue to need help, I recommend navigating a web browswer to SpotterNetwork's About page, and seeking the individuals listed on that page for all further inquiries about SpotterNetwork.

From this moment forward, the SpotterNetwork sub-forum has been hidden/deleted and there will be no assurance that any SpotterNetwork issues brought up in any of Stormtrack's other sub-forums will be addressed. Do not rely on Stormtrack for help with SpotterNetwork issues.

    Sincerely, Jeff D.

Chaser(s) Of The Decade

What do you have in chasing? How do you "rank" chasers?

Good point. Maybe we should come up with a money system like the PGA tour. Video sales ranking. Could we set up a point system for tornadoes? I think we could say that there is a professional side to storm chasing, why not make it interesting. At the end of the year the winner of the point system gets a nice trophy.

So success as a chaser is judged based on how much money you get from your video? I don't think you'll get a lot of "thanks" buttons being pressed :D

You missed my point completely. If I can chase and make money at then I will. If I never make another dime at it and witness hundreds of tornados I'll not be in the least bit dissapointed.

Money to chase? Hell yeah! To me that's a dream. Like winning the lottery, because if I won the lottery, guess what I'd do with the rest of my life? Chase.

Chasing's never competitive when you aren't trying to get something back out of it. I just can't imagine the pressure of knowing, every time I got in my car to head out, I had to make money back from it. What a buzzkill.

I prefer just having a job.

Yep, I agree with this 100%.

I'll enjoy chasing no matter who is out, or how many are doing it. If 300 people get better photos or video than I do of the same storm, who cares as long as I got what I wanted out of it. The competitive aspect to me is nil.

I do agree there are those who excel in chasing and for different reasons. I think those who are considered the best are probably those who have the resources to chase the most. Some do it for their jobs (science research), some have found a way to do it and make money at it (Timmer, et al.), and then there are the rest of us who try to get to as many storms as we can without killing our wallets or our family life doing it.

The chasers of the decade to me are the one's who go out and just love being there no matter what.

If you get paid to chase, then your a professional chaser. At least that's what I've been told and agree with that 100%

@ Jeremy, I sure hope somebody told you about the real amounts of money in chasing. It's zilch, nada, nothing. What money is made, is enough to fund a chase, maybe. If your happy making that much, and can pay your bills, go for it.

As far as this topic goes. My hats off to anyone chasing before mobile internet.

Nope, nobodys mentioned that to me on the last couple hundred chases i've been on.

As others have mentioned, it all depends on how success is measured by.

Best tornado/day ratio: Andy Gabrielson for 2010, 2000-2009 I'm not sure
Most tornadoes: Roger Hill
Best footage/shot: Reed Timmer, Mike Hollingshead
Most contribution to the chasing community: not knowledgeable enough to make a judgment

Totally agree with you and i'll put A. Gabrielson for Chaser of the year as someone said before.

For the last part (Most contribution), without any doubt ''ALL'' of what H. Bluestein and his team(s) made - and made available.

And i can add :

Best contribution to chasing community, people/group like Allison House & NOAA allowing us to chase with accurate informations online and necessary data to make our own forecast.

I think I will vote for all the folks who build a decent looking website (and associated online persona), become overnight stormchasing 'sensations', and then expect for those of us who have been around a long time to welcome their ungrateful asses with open arms. That's who I vote for.

I agree Steve, but you may end up with a mobile batting cage chasing you down after that comment.

I think we need to start up stormchaser trading cards like baseball. Each chaser has his stats, picture, # of ST posts, etc. with one or two of his best pics on the back. Better yet, maybe start up a new daytime soap opera "As The Meso Churns" based on the stormchaser community. You wouldn't need to write a script...it's all already here in Stormtrack.

Sadly, my rookie card is only used by little kids to make cool noises in their bike wheel spokes. :o
