Well I didn't figure there was any need to. Main wonder was with the camera more than the PC. Dan gave some great info about what Cineform is doing with premiere pro, that it's not just capturing, but it's rending into cineform at the same time(putting a big unneeded demand on capturing. Upgrading pc isn't much of an option for me, given what I said about the monitor deal and having pci....not pci express options to try and drive 1920x1280 now. (or maybe that wasn't in this thread lol) To get that, I need a new mother board. Would then need a vid card for that new board. And vid card details don't matter if it's coming in via firewire. I just posted more of a wonder if it was something about HV20.....since like I said it only has problems doing HDV from it.......not HDV from my Sony. (i.e. the computer *can* capture dv/hdv fine)
Given my need to drive the new 24 inch monitor with DVI at 1920x1280 I'm already pretty certain it's time to upgrade the whole deal to something with pci express slots. Blew money on 2 pci vid cards now, which aren't up to the task of pushing out 1920x1280 DVI. First one said it would do 1920x1280 and had DVI, but that res was only via VGA(which I have clock/phase issues with that won't adjust away) and when doing DVI it would only put out 1600x1200. So had to try another PCI card and the fan never shuts off, is noisey as hell and seriously feels like it's going to vibrate the machine apart...as well as being what I assume is excessively too hot. So between the two issues I've already decided just to get a whole new PC and be done with both problems. Would about have to get a new pc to get there anyway.
But if you want the details for some sort of reference, not some ideas for me to try and fix(not trying anything else short of a new everything) here's all I know. HP computer 4-5 years old. Think the mother board is asus. 7200 rpm hd. Thought the ghz was close to 3 but who knows. 3 gigs of ram. Again, whatever exact specs it has......it's able to capture fine....just does not like HV20 footage while trying to caputre and render at the same time with premiere pro 1.5 to the cineform codec.
If I didn't have the monitor deal I'd consider messing with something else. But even then, if that was the case, I'd just get software that doesn't do what premiere pro 1.5 is doing with cineform(hell I'll have to do that anyway, probably try the hdvsplit thing Darren mentioned). And I'd be done with just software. But, alas, I already know I have the monitor/non-pci express issue. Seems more often than not when I try to get by cheaper on something, it ends up being added costs before buying a whole new deal anyway. Like my 2 pci vid cars are now lol. That money should have been to a new pc. Certainly building one this time, not doing a HP or other maker thing again. Seems stupid to go that route, after a few drive update issues where you have to go to the HP site and hope they have the updated driver....as the other from the maker wouldn't verify or whatever it is called.
Mike:
Can you give us a rundown of the parts inside your computer - just a a reference? You know - mother board mfr/model, CPU type/speed, memory quantity/speed, hard drive capacity/rpm/sata/eide/?, AND the viddy card details.
It sure would help some to know what you have and what can be upgraded or not.
Just two cents...thanks...
