Brand New Footage of Andover Tornado

Incredible video footage to be sure. It looks like at the very beginning of the video the tornado is passing over the AFB, as it goes from a stovepipe looking tornado to more of a wedge right around that time.

Very well could have been. Andover is about 9 miles NE of the air force base. The larger debris ~ 2/3 of the way through the video may have been from structures hit in the Greenwich Heights and/or Springdale neighborhoods.

What a unique perspective of this historic tornado. Like looking at the underside of the beast. It would be interesting to simultaneously juxtapose this video and the widely viewed video from the Terradyne Golf Course. Thanks for sharing.

@ Troy: Could I find out the address where the video was taken?

Amazing footage!! An incredible perspective that I'd not seen prior to this. I'm glad it was re-posted as I was late to the table and did not get to see it before he made it private the first time.

It was in the 200 block of west 2nd street in Andover. Here's a satellite view of Terradyne compared to my location...

Thanks!

Troy,

I just wanted to say thank you for uploading that video. The Andover Tornado was the Tornado that I have studied more than any other, and this fresh perspective is, to say the least, amazing - though I understand the power of an F5 Tornado, I can't say I've ever been through one as you were - so thank you again for posting this amazing video.

I am curious to your perspective and what you were thinking before, during, and after the event. Perhaps if you ever feel up to doing so, a small writeup would be appreciated on your experiences and thoughts about the event that the video cannot capture.

Thank you again for uploading this video - and welcome to Stormtrack, the home of the world's most hardcore storm chasers anywhere. :)

I love the way that guy around 7:10 checks out the violent tornado coming, runs away, then runs back for another look because it's just so fascinating.

When he saw the violence of the tornado, he freaked out, and runs away. He came back to look at it for the last time ''because it's just so fascinating'' and probably to confirm that the tornado was coming right towards his house.

Thanks Troy! In my head I pictured your location further to the south and west but of course in reality you were less than a block west of the Golden Spur mobile home park. This would obviously put the tornado at your location towards the latter half of the Terradyne video.

Amazing stuff here. Shows a very real perspective on a personal level. The begining is just fairly silent observing, then you start to hear the tornado as it gets closer and then the police sirens. Then you can hear the authorities on the loudspeakers driving around. The people that come outside is fascinating in itself because it shows the nature of humans and the conflict of curiosity vs. survival as they ran back and forth like the guy in 7:10..

Hard to believe that next year marks 20 years of this event.

Troy, did you guys stay and rebuild, or move elsewhere?

In your estimation, how much longer after the posted video ended did the tornado impact your residence? Just guessing on how things were progressing in your video it would appear the tornado hit your home 2-3 minutes after the video clip cut off. In your estimation, what was the duration that damage was taking place to your home? Was there any precipitation at your location before, or after the tornado made impact?

Thanks again for uploading your video to youtube. It truly is a fascinating video in many ways. It's terrible that you and many others had to face the devastation that the tornado caused, but at least you were able to capture video footage that the scientific community can study for years to come.

hey there...my name's megan. i'm an Andover fanatic as well so I have a question 4 u, do u have any pics/vids u can put on here? I would really appreciate it. thanx :)

I just tried to open the tornado video and got a "This Video is Private" notice, so it is no longer available.

David,

If I recall correctly this guy made it private just a few days after it was uploaded to YouTube. Once the poster realized (or was tipped off) that he was sitting on some rare footage and/or a gold mine, he took it down. I'm not sure if it exists elsewhere; perhaps another ST member might?

Tx,
Mark
